CMS driven websites using screens and functionality from other components

We are developing an eCommerce site and want to drive all content from CMS (no ftl files on filesystem).

Is it possible to do this? We might even want to mix existing screenlets within our content, such as forum or blog boxes, and just use CSS to change colors, fonts, etc.
