Catalog Management: Product Price

[Abhai Chaudhary]

I have added a product to category A and category B both categories belong to separate catalogs. Now


1)      I browse to product page from catalog A and update the prices (Default price:X , List price :Y)

2)      Browse to product page from catalog B and notice updates made from Catalog B were visible from catalog A

I was looking for the platform ability to define product prices based on its catalog membership. Is it possible out of the box or I need to write a custom price calculation routine.

1) Login as admin
2) Enter "Catalog"
3) Go to any product page (search for a product)
4) click on "Categories" section for the selected page
5) (Assuming product belongs to at least 2 categories for this scenario)
6) here you can see the listing of various categories this product belongs to with an independent field "Cat_price" for each category.
7) I am yet to verify by looking at this from the front end (as an end user) will update this forum if I find this otherwise

In my previous mail I promised to update this forum on my findings on
product price specific to a category

Scenario

1) Define a product: define default and list price
2) This product is on Sale and a rule already defined for promotion
cataory
3) Product is added to promotion category.
4) Browse to category page from webtools and it shows the calculated
price based on rule define
5) I remove the default price and list price and tried adding this
product to the cart
6) Operation failed giving error : No valid price found, not adding to
cart. Please note we do have CAT_PRICE still available for this product

Question 1: is it an acceptable behavior?
Question 2: What is the significance of CAT_PRICE if I cannot use it
Question 3: Price rule interface should provide a way to use CAT_PRICE
as well. (Looks a candidate for modification to me)

default price is mandatory to calculate prices if you don't use price rules; else you have to deal with price types in your price
rules. This is basic setup
