Charting with flotr

Erwan de FERRIERES
Hi all,

as suggested by Scott, we've taken a look at flotr for charting
functions in OFBiz, and came with a POC, with display a pie chart,
representing the productType repartition in the database.

So, I will commit this soon if there are no objection.

Regards,

Hi Erwan,

Whereabouts would you commit it?  Personally, I'd rather not see sandbox/proof-of-concept code committed to the trunk if it is of no real use to end users.

Scott

Hi Scott,

my plan is to commit it in example. I don"t agree on the fact it's no
use for end users. We need dashboards and so on in OFBiz, not just in
numbers, but also in charts, to see trends or anything else. This would
be adding a great value to display information.

I agree with Erwan, it's the same kind of things than Geo Location

Hi Erwan:
IMO, I found that end-users want graphical representation of data.
Sometime ago I integrated JFreeChart w/OFBiz for a client who wanted
(static) graphical representations of all sorts of things.

I'm not familiar with flotr, but anything that would help in allowing
the creation of graphical representations of OFBiz data would be a
welcome addition to the code base.

Ruth

Example is a framework component, it cannot depend on product entities.

You misunderstand, I was not saying that charts are of no value.  I was referring to this example product type chart.

OK, nice. Just a big misundertanding then ! So, I will then correct it
and make it use example data, which would be better.
