We had discussed the currencyUmoId field of InventoryItem earlier, and it seemed to me that you did not think we needed this field. Now I think it is important to add this field in for the reason that if a Party changes its currency (ie, Euro-zone conversion), then the lack of a currencyUomId would cause us to change the denomination of all their inventory implicitly, even inventory that was already there. For example, if they received inventory at a pre-Euro zone currency value, and then converted their default currency to Euro, then all the inventory from before the Euro would now be implicitly valued with the Euro. A secondary issue is that it is possible for an organization to hold inventory in the same warehouse which could be in different currencies, for purposes of trading, etc. Does not happen too often, but you never know... So please let me know if you have any other thoughts. Si _______________________________________________ Dev mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.ofbiz.org/mailman/listinfo/dev |
Si, Yes, I agree, it is worth having there on the InventoryItem. We have a value amount, so we should have a currency to go with it. -David On Mar 2, 2006, at 6:57 PM, Si Chen wrote: > Jacopo, et al. - > > We had discussed the currencyUmoId field of InventoryItem earlier, and > it seemed to me that you did not think we needed this field. > > Now I think it is important to add this field in for the reason > that if > a Party changes its currency (ie, Euro-zone conversion), then the lack > of a currencyUomId would cause us to change the denomination of all > their inventory implicitly, even inventory that was already there. > For > example, if they received inventory at a pre-Euro zone currency value, > and then converted their default currency to Euro, then all the > inventory from before the Euro would now be implicitly valued with > the Euro. > > A secondary issue is that it is possible for an organization to hold > inventory in the same warehouse which could be in different > currencies, > for purposes of trading, etc. Does not happen too often, but you > never > know... > > So please let me know if you have any other thoughts. > > Si > > _______________________________________________ > Dev mailing list > [hidden email] > http://lists.ofbiz.org/mailman/listinfo/dev _______________________________________________ Dev mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.ofbiz.org/mailman/listinfo/dev smime.p7s (3K) Download Attachment |
I think it is a good idea that wherever we have value amount we have a
currency. We'll make that change. Also, we'll make a change to AcctgTrans so that it will record currencies as well. Si David E.
