Dev - selection of HTML editor

Hans Bakker
Good day list,

I have been looking around for a HTML browser editor to edit texts from the
content management component (electronic text) in the browser.

You can find a big selectionlist at http://www.htmlarea.com/.

my criteria of selection:
1. MIT or apache 2.0 license, NOT GPL or even worse LGPL
2. should work in explorer and mozilla/firefox
3. configuration of the editor functions (on/off)
4. good developer support

After trying several i came up with http://www.unverse.net/wysiwyg.html

I mailed with the developers and they promised to change the license of this
editor to MIT starting with the next version 51.

I am currently testing the editor in the ofbiz, opentravelsystem specialized
component and have it working there.

Suggestions and comments welcome.

If agreed by the community i will prepare a patch to include it in the OFBiz
content component.

FYI i copied the owner of this program who can be contacted at the above email
address.

Hans,

Thanks for your research and efforts on this. This would be a great thing to move forward on. I look forward to seeing comments on it.

Just a quick comment on the implementation: once decided on it should go somewhere in the framework, like the webapp component. The old stuff is in the content component because of historical reasons, from way back when the webapp and widget components were part of the content component.

Hy
I've been working on web html editor and i found this site :

 http://www.geniisoft.com/showcase.nsf/WebEditors

I try this one : tinyMce ( http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/index.php )
It's also a very good one, very configurable and Platform independent.

This is the one used in opentravel component.
Why don't you set it to framework and use it ?

Hello all,

Also there is an Apache Lenya (http://lenya.apache.org/index.html).

It goes with the BXE (http://bxe.oscom.org/) and Kupu (http://kupu.oscom.org/) editors out of the box.

Probably it is a good idea to have some tool for widget-screen and widget-form management in the browser without writting XML code, but I understand that this needs a lot of work to do. Still I think that this is a good way to go.

I dont't really know how painfull it is to make Lenya (or something else) work with Ofbiz-widgets, but I hope this could be welcomed by Ofbiz users. So, what do you think of this?

Concerning electronic text editor for content component. It's really nice choice. BXE and Kupu are used in Apache projects, probably in this way they are more fetching. Still universe.net is really nice too.

Thanks,

Oleg.

Re: Dev - selection of HTML editor

Hans Bakker
Hi Oleg,

Thank you very much for your input. As you are aware there are tons of browser
editors available. With this (unverse.net) editor we are pretty much down the
road, actually currently i am implementing this editor into the framework and
hope to have it finished today. The advantage of the OFBiz framework is that,
if required, the editor itself can be replaced without changing all the
components which use them. We also have full cooperation of the original
designers which is a big plus.

I hope you do not mind, that i finish this impementation first. If anybody
finds a better editor, be my quest, it is then not difficult to replace it or
even make the editor selectable.

thanks again for your input,

Re: Dev - selection of HTML editor

Hans Bakker
The html editor is now in the framework.

In a form on a textarea tag the following parameters are added:

visual-editor-enable=true | false
visual-editor-buttons= to select the order and appearance of the
buttons/functions within the editor. Default is: show all buttons available.

more info in the widget-form.xsd file.....
