Hi all,
I have created a draft for the message to announce the new release: https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/PB78Aw Please provide your feedback and help in editing/completing it before we send it out in a couple of days. Thanks, Jacopo |
Hi Jacopo
I've added a sentence about dedicating the 16.11 releases to Adrian. (I know at the time we were thinking 14.12 but as it didn't happen, I've added it to 16.11 so I hope people will be OK with this). https://s.apache.org/IHfa Thanks Sharan On 27/11/16 15:19, Jacopo Cappellato wrote: > Hi all, > > I have created a draft for the message to announce the new release: > > https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/PB78Aw > > Please provide your feedback and help in editing/completing it before we > send it out in a couple of days. > > Thanks, > > Jacopo > |

Hi Jacopo,
should we not mention the bigger changes like the migration to Gradle in a more prominent way? I think such changes disappear in the huge list of Jira references in the release notes and it is important for current users as it will need some migration in production use. - Gradle
- plugin system - refactoring start and base - org.apache.ofbiz - remote libraries - unit testing system I think those are some of the big changes worth highlighting On Nov 27, 2016 8:29 PM, "Jacopo Cappellato" < [hidden email]> wrote: > On Sun, Nov 27, 2016 at 6:10 PM, Michael Brohl <[hidden email]> > wrote: > > > Hi Jacopo, > > > > should we not mention the bigger changes like the migration to Gradle in > a > > more prominent way? > > > > I totally agree, we can/should expand the message to highlight the most > relevant changes. > Anyone should feel free to edit the document, thanks! > > Jacopo > > > > > > I think such changes disappear in the huge list of Jira references in the > > release notes and it is important for current users as it will need some > > migration in production use. > > > > Regards, > > > > Michael > > > > > > Am 27.11.16 um 15:19 schrieb Jacopo Cappellato: > > > > Hi all, > >> > >> I have created a draft for the message to announce the new release: > >> > >> https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/PB78Aw > >> > >> Please provide your feedback and help in editing/completing it before we > >> send it out in a couple of days. > >> > >> Thanks, > >> > >> Jacopo > >> > >> > > > > > |

Other changes which will have an impact on existing code bases, come to mind
* Paths changes for Minilang, Java (main, test), Groovy and Freemarker files * specialpurpose is back * A lot of auto-engine use BTW, why R16.11.01 starts at 31/Dec/14? https://issues.apache.org/jira/plugins/servlet/project-config/OFBIZ/versions Thanks Jacques Le 27/11/2016 à 18:35, Taher Alkhateeb a écrit : > - Gradle > - plugin system > - refactoring start and base > - org.apache.ofbiz > - remote libraries > - unit testing system > > I think those are some of the big changes worth highlighting > > On Nov 27, 2016 8:29 PM, "Jacopo Cappellato" < > [hidden email]> wrote: > >> On Sun, Nov 27, 2016 at 6:10 PM, Michael Brohl <[hidden email]> >> wrote: >> >>> Hi Jacopo, >>> >>> should we not mention the bigger changes like the migration to Gradle in >> a >>> more prominent way? >>> >> I totally agree, we can/should expand the message to highlight the most >> relevant changes. >> Anyone should feel free to edit the document, thanks! >> >> Jacopo >> >> >>> I think such changes disappear in the huge list of Jira references in the >>> release notes and it is important for current users as it will need some >>> migration in production use. >>> >>> Regards, >>> >>> Michael >>> >>> >>> Am 27.11.16 um 15:19 schrieb Jacopo Cappellato: >>> >>> Hi all, >>>> I have created a draft for the message to announce the new release: >>>> >>>> https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/PB78Aw >>>> >>>> Please provide your feedback and help in editing/completing it before we >>>> send it out in a couple of days. >>>> >>>> Thanks, >>>> >>>> Jacopo >>>> >>>> >>> |
Jacques, Taher, Michael,
please feel free to expand the announce message with the items that are important; considering that it is an announcement and not a user guide we may consider to list the main features in a Wiki page and add the url to it to the announcement. Jacques, as regards your question about the start date of the release version in Jira, it is the date when the previous active release branch (14.12) was cut: the new release contains all the new features since that date. Oops, I already added the highlights, you can move them anywhere you like.

Thank you, it is great to have a short summary in the announce.
We could expand the "release notes" if we want to expand the information we provide. The link to the release notes is already in the announcement. You are right, what you propose is better.

Thanks for your feedback.
Are we good with the current version of the announcement? I am planning to send the announcement today and then move on with a few other steps required to complete the release workflow.
