While software firms are still the highest percentage of DITA-using
firms, DITA has more recently caught on in a myriad of other industry
sectors as well. Keith Schengili-Roberts (DITA Information Architect at
IXIASOFT, also known as "DITAWriter") has done extensive research on who
is using DITA and has delved into some of the more interesting ways in
which DITA is being used. With a particular emphasis on the growth of
DITA usage in the semiconductor and medical device sectors, Keith's talk
provides some additional perspective on the "how" and "why" DITA is
being used in sectors other than software.
Target audience: Documentation Managers and Information Architects who
are interested in learning more about how DITA is being used outside of
the core software sector. While the presentation focuses on how DITA has
been implemented within other key industry sectors, much of the
information will be of interest to anyone looking to implement DITA or
wanting to compare their experiences to others.
Takeaways: This presentation provides insight into how DITA's inherent
adaptability has made it useful across many industry sectors, and looks
at how the specific needs, processes and regulatory requirements make
for changes in the way DITA has been implemented. DITA implementations
are not the same for everybody, and audience members will learn how

Keith is a DITA Information Architect at IXIASOFT, DITA evangelist and
technical writing nerd. Keith is also an award-winning lecturer on
Information Architecture at the University of Toronto?s iSchool, and
Durham College. He is also an active member of the OASIS DITA Technical
Committee, and can often be found presenting at conferences, working
with customers, and researching how DITA is being used and sharing those
