Groovy future with Java 9

Jacques Le Roux
Administrator
Hi,

A bad news, knowing who is Cedric Champeau[1]: Software Engineer @Gradle, Inc. Conference speaker. Wrote the static compiler for @ApacheGroovy.
Co-author of #GroovyInAction Opinions are my own.

We can't ignore that https://twitter.com/CedricChampeau/status/913334345322156032:
"Let me tell you smtg: I'm not super confident about the future of #groovylang. Not bc of #kotlin, but because of breaking changes in Java 9."

What do you think ?

No thanks :)

This is a bit reassuring https://twitter.com/paulk_asert/status/913375910723600385

But I wonder why nobody speaks about "Groovy future with Java 9" in Groovy MLs.

Did I miss it?

Re: Groovy future with Java 9

taher
I think we'll be just fine. Plenty of support time for Java 8 which gives
the Groovy project time to iron out all kinks in deploying on Java 9. Worst
case scenario might be some binary incompatibility which means the need to
recompile. So what!

Thanks Taher,

Yes I feel reassured. When I saw this tweet from Cedric, I wondered if something important was not missing.

But now I think there is nothing really blocking :)

Let's see

Mmm, I have to re-read that, but finally the concern seems serious and seems to come from here
