Help - Migration from OFBiz 3.0 to 16.11

Lokesh
Hey there,

I am new to OFBiz and i am tasked to upgrade one of the project having OFBiz
3.0 to 16.11.

Below is high level summary of project details:

*The application is built using OFBiz V3.0 and ZK ZUL for UI as below:
*Apache OFBiz 3.3
ZK ZUL for UI
JDK 1.6
Apache Tomcat 6.0
MySQL 5. 5    (we used extensively the Project and Person related tables)

*We need to upgrade the OFBiz to latest as below:
*Upgrade OFBiz to V 16.11
Update JDK to 8.0

The application has some workflow which is implemented via OFBiz.

Being a newbie, i am exploring the 16.11 beginner guide and demo app.
However to speedup the migration project, i request more pointers from the
forum users.

Thanks in advance!

Regards
Lokesh

Hello Lokesh,

There is little information to build upon to help you. Your question
is rather high level that I'm not sure I can be helpful. One point to
note though is that the ZUL library is deprecated and so I'm not sure
how much was invested in writing code with it. Furthermore, there are
probably way too many changes since that version, so you might want to
consider a rewrite to some portions of your system. You can probably
preserve custom components but I have no idea how much work would it
be to integrate framework / application component changes.

Perhaps take it one step at a time, break the problem down to
manageable chunks and ask for help on those chunks with more specific
problems / sticking points.

Welcome to the community and I wish you the best of luck!

Re: Help - Migration from OFBiz 3.0 to 16.11

Dear Taher,

Thank you for the warm welcome to the forum!

Yes, my idea of last post is to get high level pointers/weblinks and in my
next posts i will goto granular level and seek the forum users and experts
help. Thanks for the tips on it.

I would like to ask few questions:
1. You said that ZUL library is deprecated. Does it mean, there is no more
way we can use ZK ZUL along with OFBiz 16.11 component development? (since
ZK team also upgraded their framework, we are curious why we can't use ZUL
further with OFBiz)
2. If ZUL cannot be used, i request you to recommend alternative ways of
solving this?
3. Wrt the database migration, since there might be several schema changes
so far, we think creating the tables per OFBiz 16 and then import the data
from old backup would be better than altering the old database with scripts.

Kindly revert your views on the above.

Thanks in advance!

Regards
Lokesh

Hi Lokesh,

Skip Dever had a lot to say about issues he encountered during an upgrade
from OFBiz 9 to 12 back in 2013:

I hope some of that is useful to you.

Cheers
