short answer not directly.
if you set the productstore and/or the product to Require Inventory=N
then you have no inventory interaction. the downside is you have no
backorders status interaction, OOTB. look at checkInventoryAvailability
usually this condition is when you product is dropped shipped.
depending if you have real time inventory levels of the dropshipper(not
in OOTB) then it is a small modification.
But most times you have to send the order and get back a status of
Backordered, then send a Backorder notice. this sequence is Not in OOTB.
once the Back order is processed by the customer, then the invoice
changes happen.
