To reset the OST file in Outlook, you can follow these steps:

1. Close Outlook: Ensure that Outlook is completely closed before proceeding.

2. Locate the OST file: The OST file is a local copy of your mailbox data stored on your computer. The location of the OST file depends on your Outlook version and operating system. By default, the OST file is located in the following locations:

   - Outlook 2019, Outlook 2016, and Outlook for Microsoft 365:
     C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

   - Outlook 2013:
     C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Outlook Files

   - Outlook 2010:
     C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Note: Replace <username> with your actual Windows username.

3. Rename or Delete the OST file: Once you've located the OST file, you can either rename it or delete it. Renaming the file is recommended as it allows you to keep a backup of your old OST file if needed.

4. Start Outlook: After renaming or deleting the OST file, start Outlook. Outlook will automatically recreate a new OST file for your email account. The recreation process may take some time, depending on the size of your mailbox and the speed of your connection.

5. Synchronize your mailbox: Outlook will start synchronizing your mailbox data from the email server to the newly created OST file. The synchronization process may take a while, depending on the size of your mailbox and the speed of your internet connection. During this time, you may experience temporary slowness or high CPU usage by Outlook.

It's important to note that resetting the OST file will remove the local cache of your mailbox data. If you have any locally stored items that have not been synchronized with the email server, they may be lost. Therefore, it's advisable to ensure that all important emails and data are synchronized or backed up before resetting the OST file.

If you are using an Exchange account, the mailbox data is stored on the server, and resetting the OST file will not cause permanent data loss as long as your email server is properly configured. However, if you're using a POP or IMAP account, make sure you have a backup of any important emails or data before resetting the OST file.
