Linking virtual products to their possible variants

justin.g.robinson
I've set up a configurable product, with a config item (multi choice)
that is linked to a service product of type: Is VIRTUAL Product ? Y Is
VARIANT Product ? N, the features are all added to this virtual
product as, Appl Type: Selectable. So in the eCommerce app on the
website I should then have a drop down selection box where the
customer can select the desired feature, but instead it says "This
item is out of stock."

My understanding from scattered resources is that when the virtual
flag is set, it means that no inventory is kept for the product, it is
just a place holder of a number of products in different variations.

The bit of info I seem to be missing, is how does ofbiz, match the
selections made by the customer on the web site, with an actual
product in inventory?

The only think I can think of it you would define a product of type:
Is VIRTUAL Product ? N Is VARIANT Product ? Y for each possible
feature selection and then associate those 'variants' with the virtual
... but I haven't read this anywhere, and am not quite sure how to do
this or if I'm on the right track.

Any direct help or where I might find a resources that explains this
clearly, would be much appreciated.
Thank you.
