[MARKETING] Draft Pages for New OFBiz Website

Sharan-F
Hi Everyone

It's taken a bit longer than I anticipated but I've finally managed to put together some draft pages for our proposed new website. (Thanks very much to Taher and Fernando who helped get things moving.)

Rather than start completely from scratch, our team selected what we think is a nice clean template with a modern look that also includes a lot of features such as :

- Responsive
- Twitter bootstrap integrated
- Slider functions
- CSS animation
- Grid system

We have setup a header format that follows the menu structure that was agreed by the community a few months ago. There is also a footer that incorporates our links and also the twitter feed.

I've loaded some draft pages onto the wiki as follows

Draft Home Page - https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/61317052/Main_Page_Example_Slider1.png?api=v2

Draft FAQ Page -  https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/61317052/FAQs_Example_Screen.png?api=v2

Draft Downloads Page - https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/61317052/Downloads_Example_Screen.png?api=v2

Draft Mailing List Page - https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/download/attachments/61317052/Mailing_List_Example_Screen.png?api=v2

Before we go any further I'm keen to know what the community thinks so please take a look and let me have your feedback.

Thanks
Sharan

Thanks Sharan for initiative. New theme looks good to me.

Can we add our official youtube channel link as well in footer or anywhere
else?

Thanks & Regards

Has the 'Demo' link been been missed or is it that I have missed something from
earlier community discussions?

I am quite sure, it must have already been discussed. Sorry if I am
repeating it.

We shoudl think of one option to upgrade our support to provide the option
to navigate to the latest release i.e. at least 14.12 if 15.12 not possible.

13.07 looks too old if someone wants to traverse through the latest one.

Dear team,
Thanks for initiative, new theme looks really cool :)

I just remembered discussion on our dev list related to showing
the "Tweets" and "News" on the main section of site.

https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/Zl09xzufsyn72x7 is the link to that
discussion, IMO, it could be good idea to show the Tweets section on the
right hand side panel to give it more visibility.

Re: [MARKETING] Draft Pages for New OFBiz Website

Sharan-F
Thanks Swapnil - I'm glad you like the theme.

As it is based on a template - I will have a look at the twitter feed to see what I can do as I'm not sure how movable it is.

Personally (I'm a bit biased because I helped choose it )  I like the use of the twitter feed  in the footer because as well as the tweets, we are repeating all of our OFBiz links plus the Apache links on every page.

Thanks
Sharan

Re: [MARKETING] Draft Pages for New OFBiz Website

In reply to this post by Shrenik
Hi Shrenik

I kept the demo out of the homepage because of the discussion we had about having a technical demo for developers and a business based demo for end users. Both of these demos appear on the agreed menu structure

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/New+Website+Structure+Based+on+Combined+Feedback

I think we also talked about making sure people had enough basic information (e.g. user ids, passwords, user role etc) available before we got to the demo.

Thanks

Re: [MARKETING] Draft Pages for New OFBiz Website

In reply to this post by Sharan-F
Hi Sharan,

Just a reminder that we need to finish up the artwork, the pictures I added
in there are all (more or less) place-holders. So before publishing we need
to use actual pictures that are suitable for public consumption. We also
need to change the slider to make it more original, otherwise our site
would look like a template copy.

This is a chance for graphic designers or those with an artistic talent to
help out with some neat graphics for the website.

Finally, we need to maintain the php templates in the code base and check
them into revision control to avoid copy/paste patterns whenever we change
the pages so that we do not republish manually.

Thank you for the efforts.

It's a bit unrelated with the new site theme, but I agree.

I hope to work on that soon, hoping for a new VM; but even w/o changing things to get the trunk demo working correctly again

In reply to this post by Sharan-F
Hello Sharan,

Thanks so much for sharing the template for new website. It looks very
good. Thanks Taher and Fernando for your help on this.
I am sharing few points where we can discuss and conclude:

1) If we talk about slider then it has Grey Background and text is written
in White and it is hard to read those content. In recent conversation it is
discussed that it will be changed with Actual images so probably this point
will be taken care at that time.

2) Can we shift "Download OFBiz" block to second position? I think when a
*new* user comes to the page then first he has thoughts in mind like What
is OFBiz, What are the features supported by OFBiz, Whether it can be right
fit for my business or not. And if user thinks those details convincing one
then he can go ahead and download the software. So putting second block to
the first position seems more logical to me.

3) Now if we talk about second block: Can we improve the second line? A
common architecture ..... This line particularly addresses the interest
developer. I think we can phrase a line that says "End User" or all the
user. I know it can be tricky one but we can talk like what can be better
line that can be used there.

4) Inside Powerful Java Web Framework -> Can we change "sporting" word to
"featuring" or may be some other better word.

5) Does this "Mature" word looks good to be used with ERP, specially using
it with main heading looks good? I was exploring the usage of this word and
landed to this page - http://sentence.yourdictionary.com/mature. Any other
word can be used in place of Mature?

6) Please confirm that "Community" link will be navigating user to Mailing
List page? And "Users" link will be navigating user to this page -
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/IQFk. Please confirm?

I hope my points are valid one and will be helpful to make ofbiz new
website more user friendly. Please feel free to ignore any points that you
think are not relevant.
Thanks!

Re: [MARKETING] Draft Pages for New OFBiz Website

Sharan-F
HI Ashish

Thanks very much for your detailed feedback. You have highlighted some really good points.

I put together these draft pages just to give the people an idea about the look and feel of what the site could look like. The layout and wording is not fixed so I'm happy to re-phrase things or move blocks around until we find get something that we all like.

I'll continue working using the feedback I've received so far because I'm sure that we can improve and refine these initial drafts.

Thanks
Sharan

We are using this word from some time now, but it's indeed maybe not the best. I thought about complete but I don't think it fits better. What about
fully grown?
