How does one support a multilingual site?
For example,PartyClassifications have only one description field but the description should be shown in the language of the user or the language in which a report is produced. There are similar problems with output of company names and addresses on various documents. If I send an invoice to a Quebec company my company name is Artifact Logiciel but if it is going to the US or other parts of Canada it is Artifact Software. My address has 2 versions - try sending a return address of 14667 rue Lirette, bureau 5 to an American client and see what you get back and its Montréal not Montreal in Quebec. Is there a general solution for this? Ron -- Ron Wheeler President Artifact Software Inc email: [hidden email] skype: ronaldmwheeler phone: 866-970-2435, ext 102 |
Hi Ron,
Re: description translation Have look at various *EntitlyLabels.xml files for translation of decriptions and other field values. The *UiLabels.xml is for the translation of labels, and the *EntityLabels.xml is for the translation of entity record fields. There is also *ErrorLabels, xml Re: names and address translation As a I read your posting I would say that in such case it doesn't depend on the user, but on the receiving party. Italian documents for the Italian customer, and such. You might try the same route as described above. Here in the Netherlands we have a less complex approach. We use the official name and the official addresses. Postal workers can work it out. For example, if one has a set of SIC_Codes or Industries, is there a way to have both French and English and have the right code description shown depending on the user's language? > > Re: names and address translation > As a I read your posting I would say that in such case it doesn't depend on > the user, but on the receiving party. Québecois(e) can be pretty tough on sales organizations that do not take the trouble to appear to be local. The system should contain both languages and make it easy to extract the "right" text from a field without having a duplicate entity. > Best regards, > > Pierre Smits > > *ORRTIZ.COM <http://www.orrtiz.com>* > Services & Solutions for Cloud- > Based Manufacturing, Professional > Services and Retail & Trade > http://www.orrtiz.com > > On Thu, Jan 22, 2015 at 4:07 PM, Ron Wheeler <[hidden email] >> wrote: >> How does one support a multilingual site? >> For example,PartyClassifications have only one description field but the >> description should be shown in the language of the user or the language in >> which a report is produced. >> >> There are similar problems with output of company names and addresses on >> various documents. >> If I send an invoice to a Quebec company my company name is Artifact >> Logiciel but if it is going to the US or other parts of Canada it is >> Artifact Software. >> My address has 2 versions - try sending a return address of 14667 rue >> Lirette, bureau 5 to an American client and see what you get back and its >> Montréal not Montreal in Quebec. >> >> Is there a general solution for this? >> >> Ron >> >> -- >> Ron Wheeler >> President >> Artifact Software Inc >> email: [hidden email] >> skype: ronaldmwheeler >> phone: 866-970-2435, ext 102 >> >> -- Ron Wheeler President Artifact Software Inc email: [hidden email] skype: ronaldmwheeler phone: 866-970-2435, ext 102 |
