Need advise about the BIRT in OFBIZ

guo weizhan
Hi All,

The mail List reminds me I should continue to do the integration with
BIRT and OFBIZ, I submit one issue before, URL:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-1348, and want to make
some improving about this, the goal is not changed" let the user can
develop the Report or BI more easily and efficiently". And is there
any confliction with the OFBIZ BI component? Can let BIRT as the
"plug-in" to this component? Any advice is welcome.

Thank you!

IIRW the main concern was the size of BIRT. Could be dowloaded from advice in OPTIONAL_LIBRARIES
There is currently also a will to use outside libraries (GPL, etc.) by downloading them automatically from ant. See discussion these
last days

The main issue is the license IMO, size only matters so much. Another
issue is making everyone learn another toolset for reports. Right now
in OFBiz you can do printed or HTML reports using the same toolset
(Screen Widget, Form Widget, FTL, Groovy) as any other page. Reports
aren't that special... just a page or document that shows information
from the database like nearly any other page or document in the
system. This is no good for ad-hoc reporting, so external tools are
common for that still (for organizations that do ad-hoc reporting that
is...).

What's the different between Apache license and EPL? I thought them
almost the same....
And ofbiz need a more powerful report tools indeed, what the report of
client need is "colorful", they need bar, chart and more.
