Hi ,

I was evaluating some open source erps  applications and I liked Ofbiz and almost settled
for it for following reasons.

Pros:
====
(1) Active development ( versus opentaps , last news was of 2015)
(2) Flexibility of using (my) database of choice (i.e. PostgreSQL)  ( versus , erpNext , that is currently MySQL only)
(3) Availability of API interfacing ( WebServices )
(4) Truely open source ( many of open source ERP come with bare minimum free versions
and more useful full fledged version )
(5) useful OOTB
(6) commercial support option is avaliable .
( I see that some companies provide consulting  and many in India).

Cons:
=====
(1) the UI is not responsive , neither there is a mobile app.

At this moment i have some questions  and appreciate answers:
(1) Is OOTB support for handling Taxes in Indian context available , specially GST ?
(2) Is it possible to set tax rate on individual product types / products ?

Hi Ramesh,

?

Yes, check out the TaxAuthorityRateProduct (TARP) entity. Note that
products in OFBiz can belong to many different categories, so if necessary
you could define a "taxable" category for TARP that is separate from
categories people might use for searching for a product.

Rajesh Mallah
Thanks for input .

I am trying to document how a typical *new* company could configure ofbiz
in Indian Context
from the start and benefit in long run.

Re: New Implementation - OfBiz - redgrape.tech - Indian context

Rajesh Mallah
In reply to this post by Jacques Le Roux
Thanks Roux ,

I was in fact  looking for the sandbox functionality provided by
https://demo-trunk.ofbiz.apache.org/
<https://demo-trunk.ofbiz.apache.org/accounting/control/EditTaxAuthorityRateProducts?taxAuthPartyId=FRA_TA&taxAuthGeoId=FRA>
glad to know it now.

I had gone through http://markmail.org/message/rethx5jomtil36ny before
but it did not mention any url. I feel that url can be put in some
documentation
(may be :
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBENDUSER/How+to+Install+OFBiz+without+the+Demo+Data
)

Related to that, while attempting to create the sandbox in my premise i
observed that the

>  -o,--portoffset <offset>     Offsets all default ports for OFBiz
>

does not work for me as expected .  I used -o 1000  and expected that
proxypass'ing to
9080 backend would work , but it was'nt so. The screen was visually broken.
eventually i had to serve it from a new container (with separate ip).

Shall i file a JIRA issue if i am not missing anything.

regds
mallah.

Good idea, I'll put it at https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/OFBiz's+Tax+Authority+Data+Model

No thanks, this feature works well for years and is used on our demos (eg try the old demo - Management Apps - from http://ofbiz.apache.org/)

You will not get to backend using HTTP and a 9080 port. You should get:
FF:  SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG
Chrome: ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

For 2 years OFBiz uses only HTTPS, so to get to your backend use eg:
https://localhost:9443/catalog

Hi Jacques ,

What i meant was that  End-users should know the fact that a demo sandbox
exists
at https://demo-trunk.ofbiz.apache.org/  for experimenting ,  IMHO that
info is generic and nothing
to do with "Tax Authority"   so IMHO it should be somewhere more generic.

In my setup the SSL is in the edge-proxy  , that was the reason I needed
non-SSL backend (of ofbiz)
I think that is not unique to me , But i will recheck the port offset
feature by directly accessing the HTTPS
backend.

Hello Sir,

I am Ccing the response this time to the list , as i feel past
conversations  were not going to the list.

You suggested the below to me and the status is described inline:

    1. if accounting used: define the chars of accounts in an xml file

Used the file: applications/accounting/data/DemoGeneralChartOfAccounts.xml
at a later stage.

>
>     2. load the system with seed, ext-seed.

I did below:
./gradlew "ofbiz --load-data readers=seed,seed-initial,ext"

>
>     3. create a starting login with ant/gradle

I did:
./gradlew loadAdminUserLogin -PuserLoginId=admin

>
>     4. using this user run the setup function. (modify this setup to
>     your indian requirements if you have special stuff)

I did not notice anything Wizard like and I created a Party Group  as
described in

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBENDUSER/How+to+Create+the+main+Company+in+Party+Manager
This was followed almost to word.

>     5. load the file with the charts of accounts when created.

The file applications/accounting/data/DemoGeneralChartOfAccounts.xml
loaded without errors using Web Tools --> XML Data Import --> Absolute
Filename or URL:
--> "Import File" feature.
Results:
Got 464 entities to write to the datasource.

Trying the above at this moment.

Yes that why we have it at http://ofbiz.apache.org/

See https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-6849 for why we decided to use only HTTPS

Re: New Implementation - OfBiz - redgrape.tech - Indian context

Rajesh Mallah
Hi Jacques ,

Yeah , I saw that demo links are highlighted on the home page.

I was needing it in context of setting up the ofbiz instances with loaded
only
seed and ext data. I was trying to use it as a *reference* for making the
"seed-only" instance more useful, by selectively replicating the configs
I am not sure if others would also take similar path .  in case such a need
is generic
it may be mentioned in one of the setup docs . ( again i am not too sure on
this )

See https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-6849 for why we decided to
> use only HTTPS
>

Does the above mean serving content over plain http would  eventually be
deprecated ?
if that is so it may add a little overhead of managing ssl certificates at
multiple places.
Eg in my case i have a wildcard SSL certificate for all my
*.company.domains and
https://ofbiz.mycompant.tld  just ProxyPass passes to
http://internal-ofbiz-instance:8080/
this *minimizes* the requirement of more IPs or opening of non-default ports

Actually with letsencrypt it's now easy and free to have a certificate. This is what we are using for demos (but old demo (R13.07) which is too late
to update for that and will soon not be longer supported)
Developers works with localhost and OFBiz has a self signed certificate embedded (IIRW I make during 10 years in 2014)
I'll not comment your solution for integration servers, I guess each company has its own :)

Hi,

I do not see the Party Group i created manually listed under

"Accounts" -> "Organisation GL Settings" ->  "Available Internal Accounting
Organizations"

Where it is available for the demo data:

https://demo-trunk.ofbiz.apache.org/accounting/control/ListCompanies

I tried creating a new record using the "Create new accounting company"
feature  but it fails silently .

kindly tell the significance of the Available Internal Accounting
Organizations and does the absence matter?

Re: New Implementation - OfBiz - redgrape.tech - Indian context

I guess for this kind of task (like the facility) it maybe easier to import your own data.

Either with webtools/import or more systematically by creating ext data and loading them with the ext reader.

You can start from demo data and adapt them for your need. You will maybe find that it's even often easier than by using the UI.

Hi Rajesh,

Every organization you deal with including customers and suppliers will
have a PartyGroup in OFBiz. Of course you only want a chart of accounts for
the organizations you administer, and not every PartyGroup. You were right
to use "Create new accounting company". When you do so, OFBiz presents a
list of PartyGroups and asks you to choose the one for which you want to a
chart of accounts and other accounting information.

I just tried this on the demo site and it seems to be working for me.

From https://demo-trunk.ofbiz.apache.org/accounting/control/AddCompany ,
did you choose a PartyGroup for which you want to performa accounting, and
which is not already an internal accounting organization?

Cheers

Paul Foxworthy
