Monica, for a reason your last posts on Nabble did not reach the OFBiz user ML.
You might subscribe to avoid this side effect http://ofbiz.apache.org/mailing-lists.html About your questions I read on Nabble (I'm not monitoring Nabble directly, only through the OFBiz user ML), here are my answers: >I am new to Ofbiz. Want to use this. Need help to start with Ofbiz. Want to know how much reliable is Ofbiz and its POS. I found lots of help here but nothing quit clear. OFBiz is quite reliable since 2004 (the project began in 2001) and used by hundreds if not thousands projects in the world. The POS component is also reliable when used as standalone till or locally in a store with multiple tills Its use is straigthforward, apart for the local devices to connect (printers, etc.) where you have to understand how JavaPOS works. If you want to use it in a physical stores network connected by Internet to a Master Central Server then things are a bit more complicated and described at https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/Sync+Setup+Notes+and+Example >How is ofbiz as compare to Adempiere or Idempiere or Openbravo. I think you should better rely on comparisons done by thirds, you can look for them on Internet >ok guys at least tell which is a best Database to use Ofbiz I recommend Postgres for production, for development you can use the Derby embedded DB HTH Jacques On Wednesday, January 29, 2014 7:06 AM, [hidden email] wrote > Thanks for your time, well my question is very clear |

Hi Monica,
I was one of the founders of Adempiere - but have been a long time fan of OfBiz and would lean towards it over Adempiere in scenarios where the web was involved (webstores etc) in a heartbeat. Compiere/OpenBravo/Adempiere are all really just variants of Compiere and while I think Adempiere is the most functionally complete of all those I do believe that OfBiz's data model is, in my opinion, much superior to that inherited from Compiere. Though its model is much more complex. If I had to give a one line statement on the matter I would say the Compiere approach was make it simple, but make it easy to extend. While OfBiz built the most complex model that can address any scenario and you can remove (or hide more likely) any complexity you do NOT need. Openbravo's POS is actually based on a completely separate projected called TinaPOS. It's very nice application and while built on the same technology (JEE) there is virtually no similarities when you look at the internals. TinaPOS is the better design though in my opinion. Some have integrated TinaPOS with Adempiere too. I actually did a couple of project with the two once - it was a number of years ago and we did hit locking problems with multiple tills in the restaurant type configuration that it does allow for. Compiere/Adempiere also have POS functionality that is part of the core ERP and Adempiere's version has been considerably enhanced. But both are just providing a new POS orientated UI to allow you to create a POS type orders in the core ERP. To use the POS you would still install the entire Compiere/Adempiere client. This are not stand alone ... if the ERP or network connection to it falls you lose your tills [if I understood the OfBiz model correctly] this is not the case with it. I only ever reviewed the OfBiz POS but to me it was functionality much more what I expected from a POS - TinaPOS fits that description too. But the functionality that makes OfBiz stand out from all the others is its distributed nature - - the sync abilities Jacques provides links for previously. This to me makes it a far superior product ... if you require that. If the POS is a minor component of a larger ERP solution then you might consider other aspects between the two [Adempiere & OfBiz] - I don't want to start that discussion here. Each till has it own DB which is synced with others in a hierarchical way if necessary Thanks for your very appreciated comment Colin! Jacques > Colin |

That's your own choice, but indeed you could prefer to use the lastest branch wich as says https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/Main+New+Features contains the latest and greatest functionalities (children pages which contains the previous years changes, click on the tree icon into the left panel)
"The tentative release schedule for the 13.07 series" is explained at http://ofbiz.apache.org/download.html Personnaly I'd go that way. The R12.04 was freezed almost 2 years ago already...
