No inventory for "My Retail Store"

nonames
Hi people,

I am new to ofbiz and still exploring the system and try to understand as much as I can so that I can implement to my business. When I come to the warehouse module, I realized that "My Retail Store" does not hold any inventory at all. Is there any configuration issue or there is something I miss out? It seems to me like it is a virtual warehouse but I have no idea why do we need that instead of relating the "Web Store Warehouse"?

Please advise and thanks in advance.

My Retail Store is intended to be used by the POS component. Actually it uses(shares) the same products as other OFBiz modules
(eCommerce for instance)

Hi Jacques,

Thanks for your reply. I have looked into the warehouse inventory and do a search, but there is no results return. On the other hand, when I search the inventory for "Web Store Warehouse", the inventory exists. Appreciate if you can elaborate on how the products are share between these two warehouse.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Dave

Re: No inventory for "My Retail Store"

In fact, I have been reading a lot of documentation from various resources. Its just that they are a bit hard to follow in the sense that I tried to understand how the system works and then map it on to my current processes.

As for the warehouse, why aren't we using the retail warehouse for the pos store rather than having another warehouse and share the same demo catalog? I think I must have misunderstood some concepts here. What I would do is perhaps I will have many store and link to the same warehouse but the demo doesn't seems to be this case.

Please advise.

Re: No inventory for "My Retail Store"

I don't think there's any reason why you can't have multiple product stores
linked to the same facility, but you need to keep in mind the differing
stock management procedures that a warehouse would have compared to a retail
situation.

Re: No inventory for "My Retail Store"

nonames
Thanks Scott! Perhaps this is the main reason why the demo would prefer to have a separate warehouse link to a store. In fact, what I am trying to achieve is for dealing with consignment sales. I am trying to figure how ofbiz can make this happen and the implication to my business model.

In quick summary, I would like the user to create consignment sales order by selecting a store (consignment store in this case) and the customer. Since all business model is defined by the store, I am pretty sure customization can be done nicely in this area so that different store will have different payments as well as accounting preferences.

Next, I realized that when I select a product from the quick find button, the products from the other warehouse is shown to me as well. Logically I dun think this is correct since the store does not contain any inventory at all. But in any case, since this is a consignment sales, I assumes the products are pulled based on the facility owner (correct me if i am wrong). When the order is completed, the warehouse manager can create and managed the picklists for those approved orders. Now, this is the tricky part whereby I try to make sure the system will prompt the manager to make a inventory transfer from the other warehouse before he can start picking and packing. In this case, I can track the consignment sales in this store and still have the accurate inventory in my main warehouse. At the end of each month, the consignment store will invoice me the sales figure and tally with my consignment warehouse inventory.

First of all, I am not sure is this the best approach so that I can minimize the changes to maintain the source code. Perhaps, someone might have done this with a better way.

Any advice or comments is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Dave

Re: No inventory for

Shereen
In reply to this post by Jacques Le Roux
Hi All
Actually I'm facing a strange scenario and I hope anyone will help me
I know that the retail store is intended to be used by POS
but for some reason I want to have the 2 options available for me which are:
1-Create orders using my retail store through pos creation
2- Create orders from backend using the order entry screens in the order manager using the retail store

I faced exception during the picking process of the when I created the order from order manager
when I go to facility and click the picking tab it gives me a message "no orders to be picked"
although I've created inventory for the products and set a location for them
is that because of a special setting in the retail store? do I have to create another store?

I think this is because of the option "isImmediatelyFulfilled"= "Y"

what I've noticed is that the retail store doesn't have any inventory and so this flag is set to Y so that we can make orders from POS right?

I don't think I want to use it this way what If I want to treat it normally for example the POS have some inventory and I'm selling the products till the products are finished?

What if I changed That flag to "N" and just through the POS I shall only select the available products?

Thanks in advance for any help

Re: No inventory for

BJ Freeman
first I suggest you build a system using demo data to test your
scenarios. This will tell you if you need to modify anything.
it will also remove all modifications you have done so we are talking
about an OOTB setup.
once you have that scenario working, then I suggest you double check
your current configuration. to see what is different.
