OFBiz/BigFish: Indian Retailer Religare Wellness goes live!

Nick Rosser-2
All,

I thought it may be interesting for some community members to know about
our most recent implementation in India. It's our first real delivery to
an established and well known Indian retailer -- Religare Wellness, who
have over 100 stores throughout the country.

Checkout: www.religarewellness.com

There are a few special features for this implementation:

  * Indian market specifics: rupees for the currency; local address and
    telephone formats; etc.

  * Registration: you can use your Religare Loyalty info to create an
account. We call into their back-end system to authenticate.

  * Inventory / Delivery: the most challenging aspect of the project.
Religare typically carry all their inventory within the stores. This
is where the majority of deliveries are originated. We setup each
store location with inventory using standard OFBiz features, and
then inventory is checked at order placement.

  * Back end integration: all orders are transferred back to the primary
Order Mgmt System, when fulfillment takes place a file is
transferred back into BigFish to change the Order Status, send out
    emails, and track delivery information.

  * Responsive Web Design (RWD), using the fundamentals of the BigFish
    solution (somewhat comparable to BootStrap)

For more information about BigFish check out http://bigfish.solveda.com.

Thanks Sharan.

I often think it would be nice for anyone on this list to share success
stories whenever they occur. I understand that for ERP implementations
this is often somewhat difficult since companies may not necessarily
want others to know for whatever reason. I'd encourage others to share!

We are particularly excited to see activity in India begin to ramp up,
has anyone else seen this?

And not only from service providers but also from end-users (i.e. companies using OFBiz).

Hi Nick,

I see the good work on BigFish.
May I know if BigFish is supported on OFBiz 13.07?

James,
We have not certified BigFish on Ofbiz 13 as of yet, however we do not see any reason BigFish would not operate as is with R13.

I know some of the well known Indian sites which are on top of OFBiz. They are:

http://shopping.indiatimes.com/

http://nokia.indiatimes.com/

http://titan.co.in/

http://www.univercell.in

http://mirchimart.com/

http://www.gitanjalishop.com

http://www.medplusbeauty.com

All above are E-commerce stores.

Other one is Muncipal Corporation of Delhi: (E-governance project)

http://111.93.49.24/myservice/control/main

Next is , National Informatics Centre, an initiative by Govt. of India for their developing E-governance projects also mention use of OFBiz in their ERP initiative.

Its a great list Divesh, thanks for sharing.

I think it can be a good way for OFBiz in general if people come and share their success stories with it. It surely helps increasing the adoption. Community should encourage users/developers to do so.

I don’t know if we can do it or not but just an idea if we can also have dedicated page in OFBiz wiki for this purpose. Surely we have Service providers list but having a central place to put together some cool samples can be a good thing.

Thanks

Hi Pranay,

We have a page called 'Users list', see here:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/Apache+OFBiz+User+List

Maybe just add a child page for the users in your country? And perhaps one
for the users per industry sector?

Re: OFBiz/BigFish: Indian Retailer Religare Wellness goes live!

Nick Rosser-2
Unfortunately this list is a little difficult to find for anyone new to
OFBiz. After going to the main ofbiz.org, under "Documentation", it's a
hard to find link "Users of Apache OFBiz".

I tried in the past to get this promoted to a main link within the Home
Page. As we all know, almost all sites have a very prominent "Clients"
or "Customers" link in order to provide viewers easy access to this
information. I also feel that the "Service Providers" should also be
more prominent.

At the time of my request it was felt that for an open-source project
the current structure was appropriate.

Maybe this is the time to revisit this? I would like to see a main
navbar link of "users" from the ofbiz.org home page. Failing that,
perhaps we can have it more prominent within the "documentation" page?
Suggest that we could have a heading (like "Introduction" or "wikis")
that showcases "Users of OFBiz".

Divesh,

Thanks -- good to see such great adoption within India! And as we know,
for as many clients that the community is aware of there are normally
10x more that we're not. Good for OFBiz!

What about a references entry in the main menu. Then a wiki page with at least these 2 pages
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/Apache+OFBiz+Users (maybe need to be rewritten to make the links to other pages more clear)
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/Apache+OFBiz+Service+Providers

OFBiz/BigFish: Philadelphia Jeweler completely redesigns their site

Nick Rosser-2
All,

I thought that this would be interesting to the community. One of our
clients completely redesigned their site recently. In and of itself not
particularly revolutionary but the way it was accomplished was quite
impressive.

In a nutshell, the entire redesign was accomplished by changing the CSS
styling. Of course there were some additional visual assets made
available but ultimately a creative designer was able to completely
transform the site. It now has a new modern look-and-feel and is
particularly effective for small devices.

Check out www.ihatestevensinger.com. Play around with resizing the
browser to simulate iPad, phone usage -- the user experience is actually
better, imo, on these smaller devices.

In reply to this post by Nick Rosser-2
I will also add a Books menu entry. It seems few new comers don't spot the wiki page. These are important information which should be at the top level.

Re: OFBiz/BigFish: Indian Retailer Religare Wellness goes live!

Done

I have added  "References" and "Books" main menu entries on the main site page http://ofbiz.apache.org/
They are directly linked to the wiki. I believe it's OK since they will give traffic only if we click on them, but I'm unsure of that. If necessary I
will create intermediate html pages...

BTW the menu entries are all in lower-case, is that really wanted?

I have also noticed something weird, with the search
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/dosearchsite.action?queryString=&where=conf_favorites&type=&lastModified=&contributor=&contributorUsername=&queryString=Developers+
I get a link to https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBADMIN/Apache+OFBiz+Developers
But this page does not exist :/ Maybe we should ask infra to have a look, looks like a wrong index to me

Re: OFBiz/BigFish: Indian Retailer Religare Wellness goes live!

Jacopo Cappellato-4
I disagree with the changes, as I have explained in a separate email.
Controversial changes like this, that are immediately published as official pages soon as you commit them, should go thru a slow and careful review than commit process.
I understand that the project gets an high pressure from the outside from companies/professionals willing to promote their work and services; I know, also from a SEO perspective, how important is that direct links from the OFBiz website point to the external site directly... this is why we get this pressure. However it is responsibility of the project to preserve the neutrality and to resist to them; if we will decide to open to this, then we will have to be certain that there are clear rules on how to publish the links (who is allowed, what content can go there, in which order etc...)
