OFBiz Data Model book

pinballpaul
Hey all, was going through my docs and found this little gem that I really wish I had found earlier in my OFBiz journey:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBTECH/Data+Model+Diagrams

I printed up a few copies of 11x17in double-sided and keep it by my desk. It’s incredibly useful when trying to pick apart/understand a new part of OFBiz I haven’t worked with before.

Hi Paul,

You should checkout https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBADMIN/OFBiz+Related+Books and please also note that OFBiz is based on the data model books (actually mostly first one) authored by Len Silverston but the books are not OFBiz specific. These are general database domain design books.

Cheers

Thanks a lot Taher.  As a (mostly) end user, knowing exactly what’s in and isn’t in ofbiz is extremely useful but I’ll check these out when I need some new bedtime reading. ;-)

Does anyone know if there’s a version of these charts updated for 12.04 and above? If I recall there were some minor tweaks to the data model in 12.04 when we upgraded.

It’s worth spending some time and combing through the wiki. Unfortunately it’s only kind of organized so there are some gems buried in there. I know there have been some efforts to consolidate everything but it’s always tough to get any community like this rolling in a single direction.

Hello Paul,

AFAIK there is no updated version of those charts available for 12.04.
All the major entity related changes are being maintained on the page -
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/x/LoBr.
I must say that this document is important reference document if someone
is planning to perform migration operation earlier version of OFBiz to
the latest one.
Thanks!

No there is no updates, the most important changes might be at https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=7045166
Not all, only modifications requiring special attention.  For instance adding a field or an entity might not be there. Anyway data model changes are
pretty rare since 11.04 version

If someone has the originals, it probably wouldn’t be hard for someone to contribute those updates to keep them current.  Worst case we could edit the PDFs in illustrator. Let me know, I might be able to take a stab at it later…

This was (mostly) done by David Jones when he was working with Hotwax Media (so between 2008-2009 IIRW).
So, I guess it's Hotwax Media's property, let's see if they want to share more (the originals)... and answer you...

Another way to explore the database to use DBVisualizer Free and then go to the Reference tab of a table to view its relationship with other tables.
