OFBiz & tweeting

Pierre Smits
Hi all,

Does anybody know if there is an official Apache OFBiz account, and if
there is what it is?

There is none and here is the reason: http://markmail.org/message/tuuwxs22wvfrlkm4

You might also be delighted by http://markmail.org/message/obw4itbyatuklvi7

But as you mentionned directly to me there are tons of "fake", like
https://twitter.com/ApacheOfbiz
https://twitter.com/ofbiz
https://twitter.com/OfbizERP
If you still have the longer list you can complete...

https://twitter.com/apache_ofbiz and https://twitter.com/ofbiz_info are almost correctly showing the consensual "This site is not an official Apache
Software Foundation site! " sentence (they actually show "Not associated with the Apache foundation")

BTW Hans please add the consensual  sentence at your ofbizdemo site.

Like I long ago created an official blog but the PMC decided it was not a good idea https://blogs.apache.org/ofbiz/entry/apache_ofbiz_new_blog1

BTW Pierre, you added a Skype column to the Contributors page. I removed it. If people want to know their respective Skype Ids they can't contact
through email. Also, I don't want to have to maintain that.
You did  (actually all contributors) have a write access to the OFBADMIN space. It was an error, only the wiki is open to contributors. I fixed that.

Maybe Hans can be asked to hand one twitter account over the project?

Re: OFBiz & tweeting

Jacques, All,

That thread mentioned earlier was from way back in 2010. Is it still so
that the community believes that an official OFBiz tweet account doesn't
add to the adoption and community building of the project and its work?

Re: OFBiz & tweeting

There are OfBiz groups on LinkedIn for those who are not already getting
enough OfBiz info flowing through their input streams.

LinkedIn discussions have the advantage and disadvantage of not being
limited to 140 character notes and for the most part the messages are
written in English that can be read by people over the age of 50.

Re: OFBiz & tweeting

JulienNicolas
Hi Ron,

Not sure to understand why Tweeter is not good for communication.
LinkedIn and Tweeter is not the same thing. You can put an article in
LinkedIn and share the link using Tweeter.

In this way you don't need more than 140 character because it's just a
link. This link can be share really fast and easy to write.

For exemple, a tweet of a new version of OFBiz can be less than 140 char
and the list of fixed issues contained in a linkedIn page that people
over 50 can dissect slowly.

You can find pros and cons about Tweeter but it's clear that with it,
the information can be write fast and shared easily.

The last point could be the visibility of the project on the web. The
more you are retweeted and followed, the more you are considered as
interesting ;)

my 2 cents

Julien.

I am not saying that Twitter is bad.
I just get enough stuff now and none of it requires my response at
Tweet-speed.

The LinkedIn group is there.
It has 495 members and a stream of activity and discussion that is
already active.

This forum is pretty active. I am not sure how many people subscribe.

Between the 2 there should be ample opportunity to share information and
get the news out.

That said, if people want to tweet about OfBiz, go ahead.

Once I post on LinkedIn, the link is shared automatically - no need for
another step.

Or just put on LinkedIn with a Subject that people can click on to read
the details.

Re: OFBiz & tweeting

JulienNicolas
For sure, there is enough communication method to share news and activity.

I'm not sure that tweeter will provide better information than the other
communication methods.
I just think it's a place to be in 2014.

Maybe you don't like (or don't need) tweeter and you don't understand
why people use it.
But if you want to be connected with more people, you have to do it.
It's not just another communication method, it's a very used
communication method.

There is a lot of people that already tweet OFBiz informations but it's
not the same, create an official Apache-OFBiz project account could be
good for the project picture.

Julien.
