PDF generation with non English charactors

Bahaa Alamood
Hello,

I have a running ofbiz 16 and everything seems to be fine, but when I
generate PDF of any thing with characters from a language other than
English I get ################ . I have looked at this post:

http://ofbiz.135035.n4.nabble.com/Multi-language-Support-in-PDF-Generation-Localization-in-fo-ftl-files-td4695361.html#a4701002
and
http://ofbiz.135035.n4.nabble.com/Cannot-print-generate-pdfs-with-INR-currency-td4668043.html#a4677150

there was mention of 2 solutions, but really I did not find anything
on how to use these solutions to solve this problem. The first one I can
see the fonts are installed with ofbiz by default but still producing
the ######### when the PDF is generated. The second solution I do know
know how I can use the PDFBOX lib in my installation.

Can any one help please?

It works at https://ofbiz-vm2.apache.org:18443/example/control/main use the "FOP fonts in a PDF" menu,  then in the PDF looks for NotoSans

Hi Jacques,

thanks for the reply, I tried on the VM you  have mentioned below with
some arabic characters and the result was as attached. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.  I have to mention I am new to Ofbiz and forgive me
if I do not get some of the abbreviations of the project.

Hi Bahaa,

Sorry the ASF MLs does not allow attachments. I suggest you create a Jira
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBADMIN/OFBiz+Contributors+Best+Practices

Maybe Arabic characters are not in NotoSans I uploaded, please check https://www.google.com/get/noto/

Thanks

Jacques

Hi Bahaa and Jacques,

DejaVu (https://dejavu-fonts.github.io/) is a free and open source font
family with a wide range of Unicode characters, including Arabic.

Cheers

Re: PDF generation with non English charactors

Bahaa Alamood
Hello Paul,

I tried the Dejavu fonts but when you  have a mixed English ans Arabic
the Arabic words a disjointed and treated them link English print and
this is not the way Arabic works because Arabic is written like a script
and the letters join in a word. I will keep looking for a suitable font
and report back to the list. Thanks again.

Hello Bahaa,

I think it would be best to create a JIRA so we can help you more. We might
need screenshots, patches, etc ... I might be able to help you out but we
need a place to collaborate.

Cheers,

Taher Alkhateeb

Hello Bahaa,

I meant a JIRA issue, not a wiki, sorry for not being clear. You can
register and create a JIRA from here ->
