How is your printer connected? throught USB or serial port?
The best way of connection is through USB , because linux will detect it
automatically If it is still not working try this in a console:
tail -f /var/log/messages
I recommend you to use a higher kernel than the one you are currently
using like (2.6.*) and download the latest release of the drivers that
you can find in this link:
