I did some searching on the archives, so sorry if this is a question already
answered: I am trying to set up OFBiz for a company that imports and sells uniform items, and I want the inventory to be broken down to account for each size and color combination. Right now, it looks like I can only change the inventory of the base product, and when an order is placed, it doesn't take into account the configuration (for example, there is only the option to inventory the "scrub top", and it doesn't differentiate color or size. I may have the product available in one color/size, but not in another combination). Is it possible to differentiate inventory without creating a different, unique product for every available size/color option? Also, when a customer orders, is it possible to then take the stock out of that finished/configured product, instead of just taking 1 out of the base product? Thanks in advance! Matt |
This is what the virtual/variant products are designed for. If your "base" product is a virtual product then it won't (can't) have inventory, and only variants will have inventory. The low-level data is somewhat complex, but if you create a product and set isVirtual=Y then a new tab appears on the EditProduct screen that allows you to easily create the variants us size/color combinations (or other features if applicable). Search the wiki and such for more docs on this. -David On Jan 31, 2011, at 9:11 AM, Matt Gonzales wrote: > I did some searching on the archives, so sorry if this is a question already > answered: > > I am trying to set up OFBiz for a company that imports and sells uniform > items, and I want the inventory to be broken down to account for each size > and color combination. David,
Thank you! I thought a virtual product simply represented an item that can be sold but does not carry inventory or require shipping (such as a download). I'll try it out. Thanks again.
