Purpose of Custom time period in accounting

Hi everyone,

I am trying to understand accounting moduele is ofbiz. As I understand, ,purpose of Custom Time period is to define year/quarter(begining, end). Where does Parent entry come from?
Are there any process for QUarter/Year End(Financial end) in an accounting module?
