Hi All,
Has there been any discussion on creating a QuickBooks style module for things like banking and paying bills, etc? There are literally millions of QuickBooks users out there and while I’m certainly not comparing OfBiz to QuickBooks, there could be some valuable lessons and flows that are familiar to many that could be of use to all of us. Especially those of us that are migrating to OfBiz. Interested in knowing if I’m the only one who thinks that this could be useful. Thanks for your input. |
Hello Scott,
I can only speak as an ofbiz user here and this doesn't weigh as much as a contributor's and/or developer's opinion, but I would have to definitively agree with you, as we are seeing many other packages such as Microsoft's DynamicsAX and SAP's Business one and Business ByDesign interfases very similar among them and deploying more intuitive menus and looks. As I understand right know top priorities in Ofbiz have more to do with refining its applications framework in order to make a final release of it available during the next few months, so maybe this could be planned for later development and/or consideration. Regards, -Enrique Ruibal

This subject has been brought up many times over the years. The common
response is that each company is different, so the implementation of a Quickbooks-like interface would not be possible. It was suggested at one time that such an interface could be built and added to a binary distribution - similar to RedHat. There wasn't enough interest at that time to make it happen. -Adrian Scott. wrote: > Hi All, > > Has there been any discussion on creating a QuickBooks style module for > things like banking and paying bills, etc? Adrian,
I mean no disrespect here but I’d be willing to go out on a limb and say that the majority of end users here would have at some point used an application similar to and would be familiar with apps such as QuickBooks, Office SBA, Quicken, MS DynamicsAX and SAP's Business one and Business ByDesign as someone else pointed out. The most painful part of adopting OfBiz is the learning curve. We’ve been working on it for over a year and while I am amazed at its constant upgrades and scope, it’s still a monster. Surely the easier you make for people to grow into, the more companies would invest in it but that’s just my opinion

There is or was a export feature for Quicken.
Not sure that it has been updated as the financial module has been fleshed out. Most of the clients that use order processing software like to use Quicken to do summaries. at least it would be a quicker solution. The financial module has come a long way. but reports are lacking. that would be another path. I am working to build a new startup company using OFBiz for web store
and warehouse functions. I am planning to implement an interface to QuickBooks for financial reporting. Does anyone have information indicating where I can find the export feature mentioned by BJ Freeman below? -- Jack D. it was a quicken export it was in the finacial module in opentaps. I thought that si put it in the svn but I am mistaken. I'm not sure about any Quicken export... but I know that Si did an export from OFBiz to QuickBooks (and other have done similar things, there are various mentions of it on the mailing lists). There is even a conference presentation on it from a few years ago that you can download watch from the conference videos page. -David On Jul 12, 2008, at 12:05 PM, BJ Freeman wrote: > clarificatiion: > it was a quicken export > it was in the finacial module in opentaps. > I thought that si put it in the svn but I am mistaken. > > > Jack McKinney sent the following on 7/12/2008 6:20 AM: >> I am working to build a new startup company using OFBiz for web store >> and warehouse functions. saw video.
thanks for the correction. I only mentioned it because I thought it was in the SVN, which it is not. Yeah, it wouldn't be in the OFBiz SVN (that's not really Si's style). It could be in the opentaps SVN, but I really don't know. -David On Jul 12, 2008, at 12:32 PM, BJ Freeman wrote: > saw video. > thanks for the correction. > I only mentioned it because I thought it was in the SVN, which it is > not. > > David E Jones sent the following on 7/12/2008 11:12 AM: >> >> I'm not sure about any Quicken export... but I know that Si did an >> export from OFBiz to QuickBooks (and other have done similar things, >> there are various mentions of it on the mailing lists). >> >> There is even a conference presentation on it from a few years ago >> that >> you can download watch from the conference videos page. >> >> -David >> >> >> On Jul 12, 2008, at 12:05 PM, BJ Freeman wrote: >> >>> clarificatiion: >>> it was a quicken export >>> it was in the finacial module in opentaps. >>> I thought that si put it in the svn but I am mistaken. >>> >>> >>> Jack McKinney sent the following on 7/12/2008 6:20 AM: >>>> I am working to build a new startup company using OFBiz for web >>>> store >>>> and warehouse functions. Thank you to everyone for the input. Time for me to start doing some
research in the available information. -- Jack D.
