Re: infra report for the president

Jacques Le Roux

Hi,

I read the email "tragedy of the commons, email, and wikis" and this one also.
I also know that , for spam reason, profiles are not updateable anymore.

But I don't see a reason why the "Apache OFBiz (Open For Business) Wiki"
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/Home
would be only open to some persons (I'm one of them)

Did I miss something? Is that normal or a side effect?

Note: I'm following the Confluence notifications and we handle (fortunately sparse) spam issues on our side

Thanks

Jacques

It could be that the complaining users were not logged in, we are checking this point... We will let you know...

Re: infra report for the president

Paul Piper
Hi Jacques,

I just tested it and I am also unable to edit posts. I am sorry, but that is another nail in our coffin. Not only are we stuck with tools unfit for mass-conversation & collaboration (mailing list doesn't even accept all user email addresses), but also are limiting access more and more. The idea of open-source development is based on the idea of a mass of contributors adding to the greater good. Our documentation is already lacking, having access limited to only a handful is going to make it obsolete...

Regards,
Paul

Thanks Tony,

I see, so we need something like an ofbiz-contributors group (we have already ofbiz-admins and ofbiz-committers) and to add there users who want to edit the "Apache OFBiz (Open For Business) Wiki", right?

Are there no tools to help?

Hi Paul,

You know those decisions don't depend on us (OFBiz team) but the ASF as a whole and mostly the armed wing: infra team!
See Tony's and my answers about Confluence new issue (we need to create a contributor group and add users there)

BTW I'd be curious to know the number of users who are unable to get registered to the OFBiz MLs and are stuck to use Nabble.
Please let us know if you cross issues like Paul did (despites my effort between him and the infra team).

Also I'd like to know who is moderator of the OFBiz MLs (I was briefly in an old past) and if we have a mean to know the list of all the registered users of those MLs?

Confluence access to OFBiz open wiki

IIRW I already asked this question and had an anwser, but I can't remember clearly.
I will look at it later, because anyway to add wiki users you have to use their wiki usernames and not their email addresses.

So I have created an ofbiz-contributors group and added all committers for now.
The rights allow only to add/edit/export pages, comments and attachments, not to remove them.
Please Christian could you try it's ok for editing?

Notes:
* An ofbiz-contributor may also export the whole space (we may tweak rights later).
* Anonymous users can only read.

So it seems we will need to ask people their Confluence usernames to add them in this list.
I will try to find a better automated way. Infra already answered there are no tools, I had a quick look and this seems quite uneasy so far.

I will also add a tip for people to ask for edit permission in the header of the pages of "Apache OFBiz (Open For Business) Wiki"
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OFBIZ/Home

I checked that's possible, I hope it will not interfer with any header page from http://ofbiz.apache.org/documentation.html

Re: infra report for the president

c.schinzer-2
I see this message on the CWIKI Profile page:

You cannot change your Profile, this is disabled.
If you need to change anything contact the ASF Infrastructure Team.

... trying to get this thread track back to fixing the issue instead of
proposing lengthy migration visions ... I am not saying don't move, but we
need to fix this ASAP to keep the project going.

Jacques, what exactly did the infra team communicate? Is this to do with
the Confluence update? Has anyone been warned that this would occur? Is
this happening on all projects?

Fortunately, on the parallel JIRA update there were no similar changes. I
can work normal on JIRA as things look.

Regards

Re: infra report for the president

Hi Carsten,

See the subject "Confluence access to OFBiz open wiki" on user ML for details

Only Confluence is concerned. It's due to spam and a radical move from infra team.
It happened on all projects. Only committers following proper lists were warned AFAIK.
See "infra report for the president" thread for more details

No, unfortunately I see no difference (userid: chrisg)
And yes, I did a logout/login while trying ;-)

Indeed, you were not in the committers group. Actually there are 7 others missing (16 against 23). You are in both now.
I'd add all committers, but I'd need to know the Confluence usernames, which are not necessary the same than committers names.
Anyway with the tip, now everybody is aware

It seems the mailing lists only support gmail, yahoo mail and hotmail. I tried an email address ***@qq.com for the first time I wanna register, but failed.

Thanks guys for feedback, others are still appreciated...

Lei, I used my own domain [hidden email] to register and had any problems. It was 9 years ago, so maybe things has changed, weird though.
Has someone encountered the same kind of issue "recently"? I suspect some domains may have spamassassin issues (listed somewhere), not sure.

Ed, do you remember the 3 others addresses you used?

Please continue to send your feedbacks, I will eventually make a summary and ask the infra team about those issues.

Thanks

Jacques
