Remove Old News Items from OFBiz Website

Sharan-F
Hi All

The OFBiz website contains some really old news items so I will remove them.

Depending on the number of items - in future perhaps we can set a time limit (e.g last 12 months) that items remain as active 'News'.

Thanks
Sharan

Hi Sharan,

Great idea. But then we should have a link to the archive of old news items
as well.

Best regards,

Pierre Smits

Hi Pierre

I think that most of these are just releases that link to the download page - so not anything that needs to be archived. I'll take a look and see if we have any archived general news items somewhere.

Thanks

Hi Sharan,

It all depends what the project regards as news and what kind of procedure
it has to get news posted on the front page of the site. As soon as this is
known more news might appear rapidly.

Best regards,

Pierre Smits

Perhaps a shorter time (1 week-6 months) to see if it is still relevant
and new or something that should be converted to a normal page -
feature, event history, customer story - rather than a news item if the
information is still useful or interesting from a history POV.

A bit of judgment may be required - a news item about a new release may
still be newsworthy for a long time if there has not been a release
since then.
A conference announcement looks pretty dated a week after the conference
takes place and needs rewriting immediately if only to change the tense
of the verbs.

Nothing costs credibility faster than a site that has "news" announcing
(or worse- "a call for speakers for")  a conference  that took place 3
months ago.
It hints that the community has been inactive since then.

Having said that, I had better go look at my site again!!!

We have the "In the news" page in wiki, but it's a bit unrelated.

At the moment Confluence is unavailable
