Replacements and Exchanges

Hi. How should sold item replacements and exchanges be handled in ofbiz?
Consider this scenario: Customer returns his purchased item because it was
defective. Store does not have the same item available so they offered the
customer to exchange his item with a higher value but with additional fee.
How should this transaction (orders and inventory) in ofbiz reflect? Thanks
for any insights you can give.
