Hi Monisha,

you may give us more information on what you're doing and what you'd
like to do... Are you looking for something in a particular functional
area ? or something more like pure programming ? or ajax ? or ...

I wanted to make this project using OFBiz.
I m very new to OFBiz just before 15 days i started working on it..

I would propose something like this:
Inventory control system, procurement and supply chain management
application for your engineering lab.

You could use OFBiz as-is for this, but if you put a semester's effort into
it, you could end up with something
really useful and tailor-made for your needs.  If I were still in academia,
I would want to use OFBiz as a training platform for a database course.
I think it is more relevant to a CIS type of program than to CSE, but the
process of learning how to work with the OFBiz framework can definitely be
very educational.

I would like to suggest something but at this time I don't think you
have enough time to accomplish it.
for starters you can look at the Data Model book Vol II it has some
industry specific data models you could expand on.

Hi,
what are your expertise and competences ? What do you know and what do
you want to accomplish ? How long have you got for this project and when
is the dead-line ? How long do you want to spend time per day / week ?

The big problem we have in our business is managing a huge inventory of
mechanical parts.  Some of these parts are very expensive,
some are very mundane but we have them in huge quantities.  Some of these
parts require inspection by engineers because of government
regulations and our own quality control standards.

"Out of the box", OFBiz handles most of this problem very well.  We used it
as a starting point and added inspections, engineering controls, reporting,
and other features that we needed for our business.   I suggested it
because, having worked in an engineering college myself, I know that supply,
inventory,
and accounting controls can be a nightmare of a mess, and I wish I'd had a
system like OFBiz in those days.

On the other hand, I'm having a hard time seeing a business / information
system platform as a starting point for a Computer Science Engineering
project.
But then I'm not thinking in terms of the framework itself, but rather the
business applications on the framework.

For CRM look at the SFA and myportal.
I don't believe that is any effort to build a portlet that deals only
with CRM. The data structure and services are mostly there.
that should fit your time frame.

Monisha,

I have some trainees working on providing a different UI layer for OFBiz
using Eclipse RCP and RAP technologies. May be you can also participate
in the effort.

Thanks,

Raj

RE: Suggest Project topics

Anil Soni
I would suggest the following topics:

1. Company Allowance management system (which can handle LAT, TA-DA claims etc.)

2. Leave Management System

3. Asset Maintenance (You can use Asset Maintenance module of OFBiz and do the improvements as per the requirements)

4. Employee clearance

5. Employee Resignation

If you need requirements for the above topics then I can send you.

Also in you are interested by the future of the web you could be interested by the jQuery branch.
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/ofbiz/branches/jquery/?pathrev=980537
There things are widely open...

For now most of the work is brillantly done by Sascha (Rodekamp), but I guess he could support more help...
Sascha is migrating from Dojo and Prototype for now. But we could have much more things done with jQuery (Web2...)
I'm currently slowly reading a book on it, and its syntax is really cool. I think we could achieve more easily more Web2 things with
it than with Dojo and Prototype...

If you are good at Math, you can try to add one or two algorithms to
OFBiz, such as forecast, BOM split and etc.

So, did you had enough projects ? do you need anything else ?
Maybe someone in the communauty could act as tutor, depending on the
selected subject ?

Cheers,

The best is that which interests you personally the most.  If you don't have some sort of personal interest and possibly experience with the problem you're solving then you will find it much more difficult to complete the project.

Why did you choose OFBiz?

I chose OFBiz because it seemed interesting to me...a lot of knowledge to gain related to programming as well as other domains which i was not aware of
