I have questions about this vote / latest release and this application in general.
I know its a freebie but concerning installation to databases other than derby and looking for answers etc etc to the outside eye. I know everything is a community vote- but someone needs to grab the bull by the horns for the boring stuff - that drives people like me crazy- how do you expect to advance if new people looking at OfBiz just get turned off. 1.Why is the main page not updated with new activation commands (this does not work "gradlew loadDefault ofbiz") 2.Why is gradle - 3.2.1 being used, when 6.4 is available. 3.Why is there no bullet proof recipe for setting up with PostgreSql or MySql databases 4.Why is everything a big hunt on the internet to get solutions. 5.Why not tell people which JDK JAR or what ever - is best matched with a certain versions of gradle. 6. Why not get the front end done right so that its pleasant and easy for everyone else that is just being introduced. 7 Why are there references to Gradle 7 if it is not yet released. on and on .. One person mentioned how well Apache2 is done ( for the general public) and this is one big ball of yarn unless you use derby. Guys do it right - its easy for you guys. I am stuck between Front Accounting which installs with dual mysql databases in seconds and this sexier monster on an installation -that does not work. Please organize for the ignorant -ya its a rant - its been a week and I can not advance because every road on the internet leads to databases not connecting. Thanks |

Hello, I have been able to get 16.11.07 to work and connect to mysql databases.
However for the 17.12.03 version it just wont connect. Having been reading way too much on how to install this software - I realize many of you, have no wish to make this easier for the average users. Those that do - seem to get no support from the hard nose coders. The 17.12.03 is not complete - in my opinion should be removed as none of the site is setup to address this version - none of the online demos or youtube videos or chat boards speak of it. (must be a reason) It does not seem totally ready - the bedside manner in which it is served to the general public would lead me to rate it as a POS version. What are the main differences between 16.11.07 -17.12.03 - I used the same virtual machine with the same connectors - mysql install, different databases, same Java version. One works and the other does not. Version keeps not being able to connect to databases during loading. Now I get this error: Execution failed for task ':ofbiz --load-data'. > Process 'command '/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/bin/java' ' finished with non-zero exit value 1 You guys do not seem interested in polishing off the new version and making it appealing to the general public. I keep reading seeing Jack asking to fixup the main webpage - yet nothing has changed. Can you help. Thank you |

OK - we are advancing - noticed I had 3 connector files in the lib directory of 17.12.03 install.
The mysql databases connected and almost done but again I got the same error. Execution failed for task ':ofbiz --load-data'. > Process 'command '/usr/lib/jvm/java-8-openjdk-amd64/bin/java' ' finished with non-zero exit value 1 Total time 32 mins Noticed that it installed 14 less tables than what it did on 16.11 in OFBiz data base. |

This post was updated on .
Finally completed and installed with MYSQL Database (took forever) - now next trying to get a tenant setup going for 2 companies on one install. Hope I can find simple and complete instructions, this hit and miss strategy is time consuming.
Ubuntu 18.04 - Secret Install Recipe for OzBiz version 17.12.03 (the one, no-one at OFBiz wants you to know) for using a Mysql database. Important Tip - Download OFBiz version 16.11.07 to get your hands on the gradle-wrapper.jar file - (it is removed in the 17.12.X versions) they dont explain it and let you waste you time figuring out. It is located in the gradle /wrapper directory. Then stick into the exact same place in your OFBiz 17.12.X install. If using Mysql 5.7.3 then 1.You need to create 3 databases (with full permissions) - a user( with full permissions) 2.Install libmysql - that is wll also install your Mysql Java Connector. (big time saver) 3.Stick a copy of that file (looks like: mysql-connector-java-5.1.45.jar) into the Lib directory. (No need to make an entry in the build gradle file) 4.Mysql Java connector 5.1.45. (loaded itself when I installed libmysql - no one ever mentioned this!!!) 5. Java 8 open JDK install it make sure its the only version - set JAVA-HOME properly complete instructions in this: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-java-with-apt-get-on-ubuntu-16-04 6. Gradle 3.2.1 same version being used in 16.11.07 - mind you the latest version is 6.4 can not figure out why the old version is being used - but please use it. Nothing to really do - gradle is already set to go. 7.Then modify the entityengine.xml file located in ofbiz/framework/entity/config/entityengine.xml, using database names/ user name and passwords your created early. You can listen to the following to learn what to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lzmv0DCC5N4 THEN - you go to terminal - get into you the directory where OFBiz is located and type the following three commands in order - More info missing from their website - they are too lazy to correct it. ./gradlew build ./gradlew load ./gradlew ofbiz then when that last step gets to 91-92% go to your browser and enter https://localhost:8443/accounting boom done - all you need but could not find to properly install without going crazy. Yes the terminal page needs to stay on - ( its so annoying ) - what a bad way to set a software - again there is a cure - but since they like to hide their knowledge - I will need to hunt for it. You should read some of the emails that go back and forth between them - its saddens me that many of them refuse to make all this easier for the average user. How are they helping themselves? - By making themselves feel so important - til we find out what we need and they end up just looking like limited selfish coders part of a dis-functional community. Do I sound upset? Sure I am - version 17.12.X has been out for 3 years and info is terribly limited. All this pain to install this software with the attitude the community has - makes me wonder why I went through all this trouble. I have yet to see how the software actually functions. I wonder where I would fine support. My second choice was Front Accounting which works and installs like a normal software using mysql databases - but when things are free - can you really complain - YES!!!! lol Yes because OFBiz is from Apache - no complaints about the way the server software works- but the boys working on OFBiz must be the second stringers. That would explain it all. Good Luck |

Now that its installed I am dealing with incomplete documentation on CWiki, to learn how it works. Seems like nothing has been corrected or updated since 2006. (Now thats Amazing). What are all these dudes doing. I know they spend alot of time voting and sending emails back and forth about not making things easier for the average user.
I noticed there was an Apache OFBiz Manual ( how to book) on Amazon, selling for about 100$. Makes me wonder it is just the same CWiki incomplete information that is in that book. Now that would make me pretty upset. I don't get how that can go updating stuff and releasing updated versions but no one makes the effort to properly document things. Maybe I am just looking in the wrong places - maybe the OFBiz site (https://ofbiz.apache.org/) and the https://cwiki.apache.org/ are just the wrong places to look for updated documentation. Mind you it has only been 14 years since a proper update- maybe they work on 15 year cycles, jut like Cicadas. They hide in their underground bunkers and when they need to stretch their legs they go outside climb a tree and update OFBiz documentation at the same time - making incredible noises. Now wouldn't that be funny. |
