This topic really has me confused! Why did OFBiz PMC decide to remove BIRT and put it in special purpose? And furthermore, does that mean all the work done for BIRT (reports created for accounting and so on) are to be removed completely from the source tree?
The reason for my confusion is that I do not see FOP as a viable replacement to BIRT. It is just an XSLT processor, and you have to combine it with FreeMarker to make any report. It lacks many, many features existing in BIRT or any business intelligence suite such as:
- CSS integration on all output types
- Ability to include base libraries
- Scripting and programming integration
- Data manipulation and calculation
- Cubes
- Eclipse integration
- Drag and drop design
- A very sophisticated report build work-flow
Am I the only one stressed about this?
