Is it possible to do a BOM simulation for a configurable product like PC001?

Right now it's not possible: in fact, for configurable product like
PC001, there is no predefined BOM; the components are defined by the
selections done during order entry.

As a side note, and this could be of interest to others that are
studying the supported features of this special type of products, the
ordered configurations are not saved anywhere: unfortunately this part
of the process has never been completed (even if the entities to store
the information have been drafted out and are in svn) and so the only
way to get the selections (for a particular configuration) done during
order entry is by looking at the components of the production run.

It would be really nice to see this stuff completed, even if it is well
suited for some special types of business.

Jacopo,

I don't see a problem with checking stock availability via getting the components from the
production run (Job Shop), and doing a hand-calculated BOM simulation. Every production run is
linked to a sales order, so we know exactly what configuration ties to which sales order.

Well, I suppose it'd be nice to be able to key in some popular configuration and have BOM
simulation tell me if I'm adequately stocked to meet popular demand.
