Interesting ideas Michael, thanks. But of course we can't let those NPEs as they are now. Maybe a simpler meantime solution is to do what this Jira issue title says: remove them for now.
On the other hand by hidding them and adding FIXMEs we are less prone to forget the issue, than simply removing. That of course in case we want to keep them.
