My fault about webapptests.xml, I can see the error in eclipse (due to it requiring atleast one test case). When I validated the xml, I only validated it was correct xml and did not validate it against the schema.
I did have a suspicion this file would be left as is, my opinion would be to delete it because it's not being used and it can be added back if test cases are created. Up to you guys though.
Or the schema could be updated to allow 0 or more test cases/groups.
