Pierre Smits commented on OFBIZ-5420:
-------------------------------------
Christian, all,
BoMs should never be used for virtual products. Virtual products exist to help select the variant. Not to produce the virtual product. You don't produce that.
Suppose you do manufacturing and you have a cup as the virtual end product, with following variants:
* large cup
* small cup
You manufacture the variants and these are the products you actually sell. Not the virtual product.
_emphasis_Re:shouldn't the unit price of assembled product order items be set to the sum of their simulated BOM costs instead of the default price?.
Do you mean automatically? It could be, but the ramifications can be enormeous. The company might not have everything setup correctly to do this. Better is it to do this manually.
_emphasis_Re: Shouldn't the default price of assembled products only be used when they are added as quote items?
Commercial pricing is used. In quotes, in proposals, in orders and invoices. The default price is there, for that purpose. But, as is goes commercially - overriding the default on orders is intended and the final price on the approved order can be different.
> Add ability to separately price BOM elements for orders

> I have a scenario where a company individually prices BOM elements of assembled products ordered. So if an item is manufactured from 2 component products, the company needs to be able to specify prices for both of the components to made up the total parent product cost.
