To open a branch it needs to have people motivated into realising this POC, if some shows up why not. But argument of control about the delivery is quite important. I personaly don't feel the need of it, yet. Big download do not bother me, the fact that you'll have to download the lib one day. If Apache Infra do not complain about storage space...
