Mansour Al Akeel commented on OFBIZ-5652:
-----------------------------------------
Jacopo,
I think when you said:
"I think that providing the ability to deploy OFBiz into an external container would increase the adoption of OFBiz"
It clearly demonstrates that we are on the same page. Other software exist and distributed as a war file and they can be integrated with ofbiz. Another case where I tried to deploy a war file to ofbiz and failed is when I tried to bring a complete portal server (JSR 286) to ofbiz. Apache Jetspeed 2 is a stable and flexible portal server. The advantage of this is to reuse existing skills and technologies when developing portlets for ofbiz. Yes we can always deploy jestpeed on external server, and develop portlets to communicate with ofbiz in restful way, but it's not like when we access ofbiz components directly. I understand this will be time consuming, at least the way I would start working on it, by separating Ofbiz components (Entity Engine, service engine, widgets ) as stand alone reusable components.
additionally, providing the ability to deploy on external container may open the door in the future to distribute ofbiz without the embedded container which will take away the effort of integrating ofbiz with embedded container and aligning it with each release of tomcat.
