I think there is no need to change the default field length in OFBiz. There are several ways mentioned in the comments and one provided in the patch for adopters to apply to their custom OFBiz installation if they really need a longer id field.
Sticking to the default prevents adopters from having to change/migrate their existing installations without hindering new adopters to use the aforementioned solutions. It seems a good solution for all.
I propose to close this issue as "Won't do".
If there is a more complete solution regarding UUIDs considering the objections raised in the comments, we can always reopen this issue or create a new one.
