Yes, this is correct. The website is working fine with http and it is not working on https port. We should work in a way so that all the pages started working on https. Google has already started promoting(i.e better ranking) the content of your site if they are served from https URL. Please refer this link: https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2014/08/https-as-ranking-signal.html

As the http/https related problem is rectified I would suggest writing a Redirect rule that will redirect user request from http to https.
