A new Web Pos application
-------------------------

                 Key: OFBIZ-1965
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/OFBIZ-1965
             Project: OFBiz
          Issue Type: Improvement
            Reporter: Marco Risaliti
            Assignee: Marco Risaliti
            Priority: Minor

This is the first alpha version of the new web pos application.
I have converted some of the actual services of pos application with a web user interface.
I would like to get some feedbacks on it.

Thanks

I think connecting to devices like, printer, scanner, signature pad and other similar thing can be an issue. May be we can get away with using trusted java applet for few.

A scenario when this application could be really useful is for example in a restaurant, when waiters take orders at tables: they could use an handheld devices running a browser connected to this application

Marco Risaliti commented on OFBIZ-1965:
---------------------------------------

The first advantage I have found in my mynd between a web application and a client/server application is that you don't need to distribute the software on every single drawer but if you think about it you can find also find something else.

The connection to devices/printer/scanner is still not been developed and this is why I said is an alpha version but all people can contribute on develop it if they were interested.

Jacques you are right, it does want to replace pos application but complementary.

It used the same OFBiz table and same service logics.

This is my opinions.

I don't know if we have to vote to include it into OFBiz or I can proceed commit it as a special purpose application.

Thanks
Marco

David E. Jones commented on OFBIZ-1965:
---------------------------------------

This would definitely go in a component in the specialpurpose directory and not in the applications directory. Even the existing POS component is in the specialpurpose directory (because it is oriented to a specific role and process as opposed to being generic functionality organized around the data it manages).

I would say specialpurpose component (into the specialpurpose/webpos directory).

Bilgin Ibryam commented on OFBIZ-1965:
--------------------------------------

Marco, thanks for your contribution!
The entitymodel.xml in webpos is not used and can be removed.

What do you think about creating PosTerminal entry (with posTerminalId the client IP address for example) for every client who connects to webpos ?
This would fit better to webpos than using hardcoded posTerminalId pos-1 as every client of webpos is kind of new terminal?
I think posTerminalId pos-1 was added to demonstrate how every machine to which is installed POS, can have a different posTerminalId.

Marco Risaliti updated OFBIZ-1965:
----------------------------------

Hi Bilgin,

you are right the entitymode.xml can be removed but I when I add it I'm thinking to add a new filed to PosTerminalInternTx  entity to store "Pos Paid Reason" instead of store it in the reasonComment field.
I have already created some enumeration into DemoPosData.xml but it is still not been used.
There are still a lot of things that has been not implemented or not working so contribution from other people are welcome.
Removing the hardcoded value pos-1 into WebPosEvents.java at line 77 is something still to be done.
I'm thinking to add a combo box after logged in to choose the posTerminalId but I didn't get the time to do it.

Thanks
Marco

Marco,

I wonder if we could not share most (if not all) labels with the POS.  This would avoid to replicate work already done.

Marco Risaliti updated OFBIZ-1965:
----------------------------------

Hi Jacques,

when I developed this application I taken some screen from ecommerce component but I decide to not share label between webpos and the ecommerce and pos components to avoid what it's happened between ordermgr and ecommerce application.
And anyway it seems to me that pos application does not seen the labels of the others components.
Actually webpos is an independent component and it is living alone.

Thanks
Marco
