This is something I am interested in pursuing, and I mentioned it on the dev mailing list. I have been lurking on the Apache Commons mailing lists - trying to get a feel for their community.

We would need unit tests for the expressions, and then try to use the classes as an external library. Also, it would help if others were interested in supporting a stand-alone library - so I'm not doing it alone.
