Re: ofbiz.org domain and all the infra around it

hans_bakker
Ok, I requested more memory from infra.

if you could provide me with the scripts to rebuild the instances every
night, i will have a look at that....

Hans

Hell, you need more memory for the one demo :) - we might want to try getting a second one.  As far as the scripts for setting up and running each of these instances - they will vary vastly by hardware setup - and I don't think that I can provide those because those are all the intellectual property of Contegix - not mine to give out.  I'll send along an email looping you in on that discussion though Hans, so we'll know.

One more quick answer here Ean - all of the servers are ASF servers - they have their own infrastructure and I'm not sure what business is behind it - they might own their own facilities - but it does seem far fetched.  We attempted to go down the road of getting Contegix (and already approved, preferred vendor for other ASF projects btw) to have this status with OFBiz, but it never really got anywhere.  Sorry I missed that on my original response.

Ruppert

David E. Jones-2

Yes, the ASF does have its own servers. I don't know all the details, but some are donated servers (controlled by infra, but the box/connection/etc are provided by someone else) and some are servers at data centers but owned or leased by the ASF with the infrastructure budget. The ASF doesn't have a ton of money flowing through it, but enough to pay for infra and a few other things.

I took the original message to mean that we just didn't have a place to
put the stuff. If its just a matter of checking out the various versions

What do we need to do to get credentials on these machines?

I've built some community management stuff on the
opensourceforamerica.org server that is all based on OFBiz. Maybe we can
use some of that for the main site?

Re-running a nightly build and dumping the output somewhere does not
sound insurmountable. I guess this stuff is all under OpenSolaris?

I think asking Gavin from this issue  https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-1877 (directly or maybe rather creating a subtask
for new credentials) should be the way.

Looks like it's Ubuntu (at least it's what I see when I connect to it), and I must say I like it (don't remember if we specifically
asked for or not, having some kind of reminiscence :)

Just wanted to let everyone know that we reupped for another month since it appears that everything hasn't been migrated off of the server by the end of last week. We have signed the decommission notice for this server to end before the end of this month.  Looking forward to not losing any data and getting people rallied around getting everything over to the ASF.

thanks for the heads up.

Tim Ruppert sent the following on 1/4/2010 8:11 AM:

We have signed the decommission notice for this server to end before the end of this month.  Looking forward to not losing any data and getting people rallied around getting everything over to the ASF.

Bump - one more week with access to the resources on the HotWax sponsored server.  If there's anything important to you personally or the community, please get it off there and prepare it for the requested ASF infra!

Thanks for all of the help maintaining the server and pushing the infra to where the community wants it.  Here's to hoping that it goes super smoothly.

Cheers,
Ruppert

Re: ofbiz.org domain and all the infra around it

hans_bakker
Hi Tim,

i have no problem helping you, however we need 2 subdomains on
apache.org and 2 ssl certificates.....Apache did not yet provided this.
Perhaps push them a bit?

when i have that, i can run the demo and 9.04 version on the apache
infrastructure.....actually they are running there now already....

Regards,
Hans

Alright everyone - today's the day.  Accounts will be turned off and the OFBiz services on the HotWax / Contegix server will stop somewhat abruptly.  There are a few pages that need to be updated with the new location / links to everything, but I'm sure those will get fixed as people have the new services in place.

If anyone needs access today, but it's already been turned off - please let me know.  After today, if there are resources that you need that you didn't get off during this two month transition, you can email me directly.  Thanks to everyone who helped these services to be up and running so amazingly smoothly over the past number of years - I'm way interested to see if it goes as smoothly once it migrates.

Cheers,
Ruppert
