Users - Freemarker Template questions

Okay,

 

I’d like to help clean up some of the reports in OFBiz.  It seems most of the reports are written with Freemarker, but I have no idea about how to start learning/writing Freemarker or if there is a preferred editor to use.  (right now I am just viewing in Notepad).

 

Any suggestions,
