Ben,

On some multiple deployment systems, we use patch files where the values
are replaced with variables e.g.

+ password="@@@password@@@"

We then use ant to do string replaces from .properties files on the
patch files before applying the patches themselves.

I know it sounds a little convoluted and it may not suit your specific
scenario, but it's another option to add to the armoury of tricks.
