problem in configurable product

I created a virtual configurable product in catalog under configurable pc category.but when i see that product in ecommerce section . I see the message Item is out of stock and when i try to add to shopping list i get an error as configuration is not valid
    Is there something is missing to be entered or there r any changes to be done in catalog section....
