Anyone out there interested in forming a new OFBiz community dedicated
solely to making OFBiz better, please feel free to contact me at [hidden email] or [hidden email]. I'm talking about a group of people who wish to see OFBiz become the premier open source ERP, e-commerce and enterprise development platform imaginable. IMHO, there are a few things that need to be done - that are not getting done here - to take OFBiz to the next step. These include, but are not limited to: * Packaging * Release management tools * Test suites * And of course, my favorite, documentation Such a community would foster business and industry outreach (including soliciting of requirements) and make marketing of OFBiz to industry a primary objective. If there is enough interest out there I'll work on next steps. Regards, Ruth Hoffman |

Ruth I would like you to stick around.
Though I have my own flavor ofbiz, I believe in a central place to deal with ofbiz. From the response on the Dev list I see others that have the similar outlook but want it done in the Apache ofbiz. My view point is an Integrator. I have a business that ofbiz plays a key role in, however ofbiz is not the reason for generating my income, it is a tool. Even though I have had a negative response with some of the PMC and committers, I keep providing input and have a few that will work with me. Keep trying I am sure you will also be able to give valuable input. ========================= BJ Freeman Strategic Power Office with Supplier Automation <http://www.businessesnetwork.com/automation/viewforum.php?f=52> Specialtymarket.com <http://www.specialtymarket.com/> Systems Integrator-- Glad to Assist Chat Y! messenger: bjfr33man Ruth Hoffman sent the following on 1/25/2011 8:03 AM: > Anyone out there interested in forming a new OFBiz community dedicated > solely to making OFBiz better, please feel free to contact me at > [hidden email] or [hidden email]. That sounds like a great idea, especially if done as a sort of commercial distribution of Apache OFBiz with documentation, support, etc included. I see no reason to have everything go through a single channel. There are lots of people who want to do things, and they should do them! Don't wait to get the open source project to do it... the fact of the matter is that many of the things that would make a commercial distribution successful are simply not likely to be done by the community, or in some cases not even allowed by the ASF. I also believe in competition. What I mean by that is that everyone who things they have a good idea should GO for it and try it out. Don't wait for other people to do it, do it yourself. There are many ways to supplement and complement OFBiz and there is no reason most of those things should be in the project itself (and conversely there are many things in OFBiz itself that IMO should be separate projects!). With Moqui I am intentionally trying to organize it to encourage just this: a robust "ecosystem" of open source projects and commercial products that use the technology by are not an official part of it. That would include applications and themes and tools and so on that are meant to plugin to the framework and share the same data model so the various apps interoperate well, but are not limited by being part of a central project. Over-centralization is rarely a good. -David On Jan 25, 2011, at 8:03 AM, Ruth Hoffman wrote: > Anyone out there interested in forming a new OFBiz community dedicated solely to making OFBiz better, please feel free to contact me at [hidden email] or [hidden email].
