ASF Board Report for 2009-06

David E. Jones-2

I just found out a bit ago that the ASF board meeting is this week,
and not next week as previous announcements had said. That means that
the board report is now basically late!

I have thrown a quick one together, and it is available here:

http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBADMIN/ASF+Board+Report+2009-06

I plan to submit the report later today. I apologize for the short
notice (I thought we had another week for this), but feedback and
additions are certainly welcome in the next couple/few hours.

Shouldn't we say anything about using the Apache infrastructure and the
usage of OFBiz in the apache environment as was discussed in the infra
mailing list?

I keep raising up the issue of using OFBiz for Apache Infrastructure and we've had interesting conversations over there.  Might be good to add it in there for it being documented ....

Re: ASF Board Report for 2009-06

David E. Jones-2

Hans was referring to something about infra too, but I'm not sure what
exactly.

What I'm not aware of is:

1. what specific objective are being worked on?
2. are there any issues that we need to bring to the attention of the
board?

Re: ASF Board Report for 2009-06

Hi David,

In general these subjects were handled by Tim, perhaps better he reacts
on that?

i was referring to the last report about Infrastructure, shouldn't we
mention that we are now using contegix resources and are waiting for the
infrateam to respond?

Then there was also a request to use ofbiz for the apache
administration/content management, shouldn't we say we are ready for
that and are interested to make ofbiz suitable for that?

regards,
Hans

IMO we should also include the point about the availability of new
Apache OFBiz website.

I don't know... AFAIK the main issue has been addressed with the
direction of Contegix hosting the OFBiz infra just like they are for
certain other ASF projects.

There are certainly things to address related to this, and at least
certain things like builds should probably move to the normal ASF
infra, but I'm not aware of any outstanding efforts related to this.

On the other hand, I know in the past various people have requested
various things... so there could be something someone is pushing.

I don't think we are ready for this are we? IMO we have quite a bit of
work to do, even defining what needs to be done, before OFBiz will be
ready for that.

Wasn't that thread just a general discussion?

I know there was some sentiment requesting support from others at the
ASF for the idea of using OFBiz as the solution. I don't think that
approach is going to get us very far. In a meritocracy we need to
present a solution that is ready to go, start using it ourselves, and
then introduce it to the rest of the ASF.

That is when the option will be taken seriously and is more likely to
be adopted.

Yes, were everyone was pushing his own solution, Tim suggested OFBiz of course. In his last message Ted Husted spoke about
requirements and creating a Wiki page for summarizing the situation.
One mandatory requirement is to have something like the autoexport Confluence plugin.

I totally agree and I know it's not an easy task. Like you suggested for the business part, I think we should set our own
requirements before doing anything and maybe ask for ASF's requirements too.
Then we could begin to design something, what do you think ?

Re: ASF Board Report for 2009-06

David E. Jones-2

Yes, I agree and I have started gathering requirements in process form
here:

http://docs.ofbiz.org/display/OFBREQDES/Story+of+Apache+Open+Source+Project

As a warning/disclaimer: this is FAR from complete and just some stuff
I threw together in a few minutes about a month ago.

As with other UBPL related things this is meant to follow the HEMP
process:
