About UI Label translations for "CommonRate"

c.schinzer
Reference: framework/config/CommonUiLabels.xml

All,

as I am currently finishing a customization of the default e-commerce setup
for German language (Locale de_DE) I have come across some UI Labels that
were recently introduced (apparently) and which had to be re-translated.

I noticed that the translations seen for "CommonRate" do in general not
reflect the context of the label's utilization context. In the current
R09.04 it is used in the Product Management GUI to indicate the settings for
the product rating. I can see no other use of this label (yet) in other
parts of the framework / applications than in product.

Now I think there are two options, and this is why I post this mail to the
community:
(1) Keep the label as is, ask mother tongue people to re-translate in this
sense and be happy.
(2) Change the label key to something more precise, such as e.g.
"CommonProductRating" (or even remove the label from CommonUiLabels.xml and
add to ProductUiLabels.xml) and to maintain the 'CommonRate' label as is
with it's (apparently assumed) context of "tariff", "day rate" etc.

My personal preference would be the latter as the "false" translations
already indicate how common the misunderstandings are.
In order to mitigate the risk of misunderstanding I would prefer to keep a
CommonRate label and specialize the label for this utilization as proposed
above.

Please let me know your comments.
I will take the effort of logging the proposed fix/improvement (my
preference if no strong objections come my way here) to JIRA and providing
respective patches then by tomorrow evening at the latest.

Thanks & regards

Carsten

In English, "rate" could mean a number of things. So, UI label keys that
are more specific would be a good idea.
