Hi All:
The new OFBiz 9.x (from the packaged distribution) main storefront page - center column - doesn't resize gracefully - at least not with FireFox 3.0.10. Content from the center column overwrites right column text even when I resize my browser window almost as wide as it goes. Not to offend anyone but - It looks really sloppy. Other observations that make it look not too professional: The top rule just below the Featured products (BTW, the "P" should be capitalized) is longer than the other rules separating each line. The graphics are not centered above the descriptive text No page counters - even if there is only 1 page, I believe you should tell people that there is only 1 page of products. (Plus, you want to showcase the fact that the software is pagination for you. This is a selling point!) When you select "Gift Cards" under Browse Categories - there are some empty lines in the list (between "Gift Cards Reload" and "Gift Cards Purchase") Same is true of "Widgets" and "Gizmos" Again, not to insult since I know how hard it is to get the CSS right - but IMHO it is better to have something "safe" like the 4.x center column layout where you can be assured that each item will fit on a separate line and that the center column resizes gracefully (to a point :-) than this. Especially when you are trying to get people to try it out. Thanks for listening. Ruth |
Hi All:
Need to clarify - not sure if this is the 9.x code I'm looking at. It is the "ofbiz-trunk" as downloaded last night from the Apache website. The prepackaged code. Ruth appreciate the input, css is tricky across all browsers.
especially since Microsoft likes to use non standard features in their browser. I use ff 1.5 and I am not having the problems you show. here is what I use to test for all browsers, since not everyone even uses FF. http://browsershots.org/ Also the CSS went through a major change when we converted to themes. and of course the lack of manpower to test and fix. Thanks for you list. Hi BJ:
I understand. Maybe I can take a look at it later today - or this week - and see if I can recommend some fixes. That is if you guys are interested. Yes, this is definitely a weak spot in OFBiz. Aside from the recent great work by Anil Patel to clean up and improve the HTML in the ecommerce webapp I don't think it's really been touched (except as needed when adding new features) for the last 4 or 5 years! It's always been a weak spot in OFBiz, and I think the reason why is that most web developers that do custom ecommerce sites based on OFBiz create totally custom HTML and then fit in the dynamic elements from OFBiz instead of trying to use the HTML that comes OOTB as much as possible as refining it as needed and customizing it mostly through CSS. This is an important point though, and improvements here would certainly make OFBiz more interesting to a large number of people and organizations who evaluate it for their ecommerce needs. I'm really inspired by the recent efforts from Anil, and I hope others with the skills and vision for this also get involved to make the thing really shine right out of the box. In other words, I guess in short that means: +1 -David On Jun 11, 2009, at 11:39 AM, Ruth Hoffman wrote: > Hi All: > Need to clarify - not sure if this is the 9.x code I'm looking at. > It is the "ofbiz-trunk" as downloaded last night from the Apache > website.
